Trading for a Hitter or Two

Postby Brownie19 » Thu Apr 22, 2010 2:56 pm

So I've collected a pretty stellar pitching staff if I must say so myself. But my hitting is dragging behind.

Although I'm lagging in HR's and RBI's so far, I think I'm ok there. Post draft I thought I needed a bit more speed and AVG - if anything at all.

I have two options (sorry, this is a bit long...)

OPTION 1

I've proposed to trade Hughes for McCutchen
I've also proposed Hughes and Matusz for McCutchen and A.Jones

I can't go wrong with either eh?

Then I started looking into McCutchen more. Although he hit for decent power last year, his minor league numbers suggest he won't hit that many HRs. So - would I be better off getting Pierre for Hughes? Pierre historically hits .290, which I need and he's a proven 50+ SB guy. McCutchen may steal that many, but I think most pegged him for about 35 this year.

So - am I better off going for the proven AVG, high steals player, or do you still think McCutchen will hit enough HRs and collect enough RBI's to make him the better choice. I think he'd need to hit 15hrs and collect 70rbi to make up for the better avg and sbs that Pierre should provide (and maybe more runs scored...).

OPTION 2

Trade Hughes for C.Rasmus

or Hughes and Matusz for Rasmus and C.Quentin

I really like what I've seen so far from Rasmus, but I suspect he'll settle in as a .265-.275 hitter this year, with about 20sb. Is he a better fit for the team than McCutchen or Pierre are? an all around guy? Or should I be going after the higher avg guys and avoiding guys like Rasmus and Quentin?

Thoughts?

I like the Hughes for McCutchen deal for you. I also like Hughes for Rasmus but your team is definitely set for power and I would suspect that McCutchen will steal more than Rasmus.

I'd hold onto Matusz but would swing Hughes for McCutch if you can.
