Using #1 WW Priority in a Large League

Postby jager19 » Thu Apr 22, 2010 6:39 am

I easily have the weakest team (I took over for an inactive manager) in a H2H 20 team Full Keeper League (25 players)...I also have the #1 Waiver Priority. Should I use my #1 Pick for Sean Rodriquez (2B-OF), Ike Davis (1B), or be patient and wait for something bigger???

Here is what my brutal, rebuilding team looks like:

C-J.Clement
1B-C.Kotchman
2B-C.McGehee(2B/3B)-but will lose 2B next year
SS-J.Wilson
3B-P.Feliz
IF-M.Fontenot(2B/3B)
LF-J.Borbon(LF/CF)
CF-B.Gardner(LF/CF)
RF-J.Bruce
OF-N.Reimold(LF)
UT.Vlad.Guerrero(UT)
Ben-G.Parra(LF/CF/RF), D.Barton(1B), J.Buck(C), M.Aviles(SS-NA)
SP-M.Scherzer
SP-J.Westbrook
SP-C.Volstad
SP-OPEN
RP-J.Valverde
RP-Jim Johnson
P-T.Clippard(RP)
Ben-T.Saito(RP), D.Holland(SP-NA)
DL-Tommy Hunter(SP), J.Marquis(SP)

I know pretty brutal....

I was hoping to build my team around some good young batting (most of the top 50 MLB prospects in the minors are taken). I was also hoping to build around a good young SS in Starlin Castro (Is he worth holding onto the #1 WW for?...and will he even get a sniff of the majors in order to be activated in Yahoo?).

Or should I put in my #1 Waiver request for either S.Rodriquez (2B-TB) or Ike Davis (1B-Mets)???

Your response is greatly appreciated!....sorry for the long post!

I would hold out. I don't see Rodriguez or Davis as impact players. At this point, you need to nail some solid pickups. I think using your waiver now on one of these guys would be a mistake.

Last year in my dynasty league I held on to my waiver pick all season. As a reward I now have Jason Heyward on my team.

Who ISN'T in the Yahoo player pool that might be considered next seasons Jason Heyward? And will they be activated in Yahoo this season?

Am I correct in hoping that Starlin Castro (SS-CHC) gets brought up sometime this year, so that I can use my #1 WW priority on him??? Might he be the next H.Ramirez at SS?

Don't waste it on Sean-Rod. He is not much different than Brandon Wood.

As a Razzballhand/razzballer, u should read more from Stephen's "Scouting the Unknown" and "Minor League Review" if you gonna play in this kind of league.

You need corner power, so I'll looking into Justin Smoak and Pedro Alvarez first. Also keeping eyes on Travis Snider, Mike Stanton, Desmond Jennings, Jesus Montero, even Logan Morrison, Brett Wallace.(In this order) (Chris Carter/Michael Taylor.OAK. maybe a year away but should put them on the radar, too)(Not so confident stashers who need everyday job includes:Tyler Flowers, Kila Ka'aihue,Brandon Allen,D.Brown,Max Ramirez)

Personally, I dont have much love for Castro. He didn't prove that he can hit for power yet, and I doubt he will, especially in Hanley's level. Your speed are fine so make sure don't buy for speed anymore, especially this is a H2H. Bruce is the building block. McGehee could be an above-average IF in this league, Santana at C, and Vlad is above-average at Util.

Borbon/Gardner are providing speed this year, which should make you competitive in Runs, Steals, and BA, but if someone offer good value power bat for them, you should trade them.

I'll roster Barton over Kotchman and let go the followings:
Parra(LF/CF/RF), Kotchman(1B), J.Buck(C), M.Aviles
and try to stack the above prospects on the bench. U don't want to carry a bench hitter in this kind of league, unless he is a high celling prospect.

U are targeting playoff as soon as next year, but no need to give up. U should stream weekly or be a Mr.B(if there are Holds and more ratios cats or punish streaming) to make sure okay result in pitching. I don't know the format so I can't help on that.

Only three of your pitchers worth carrying on a winning team: Scerzer, Valverde, Volstad. Holland and Hunter are next tier, then Saito and Jim Johnson. Free feel to let go the others. Jeremy Hellickson, Jake Arrieta and Kyle Drabek are "kinda" under-radar top pitching prospect for now. Keep a close eyes on the.

The league is deep and this team needs a lot of work. I wish you all the luck, (and have time to read Stephen).

p.s. At least you got Carlos Santana!

I would definitely wait. In my view, neither Davis or Rodriguez are worth spending the #1 pick.

That's a great post Quintero.

One prospect I might add is Martin Perez, pitcher for the Rangers. Not sure if he makes it to the bigs this season but I have heard good things.

That was an AMAZING reply Quintero!!! All of those batting prospects are already gone.....and unfortunately I don't have Carlos Santana (that owner won't budge).

Thanks Again to ALL replies!!!
