Cruz for Reyes

Postby OBC » Mon Apr 19, 2010 3:10 pm

In a 10 team 5x5 roto league.

I'm currently not doing well in BA or runs. I'm thinking of capitalizing on Nelson's recent tear and trying to sell high on him. I'm clearly weak at SS with a platoon of Furcal and Evercarb holding the fort down, so I'm thinking targeting Reyes might be a nice upgrade.

Am I crazy about second guessing offering this trade? It's just hard to look at Cruz's league leading HR's next to Reyes measily sub .200 BA and feel comletely confident. Reyes is a proven stud, but he's obviously a bigger risk with his recent injuries, while Cruz is an up an comer who has the potential to put up 1st/2nd round numbers but is thus far unproven.

Thoughts?

Depending on how worried the Reyes owner is, do you think you could get him for cheaper than Cruz? I think Reyes is a good buy-low. Remember he basically had no spring training this year and missed most of last year. He just needs to get his timing back.

I think you're paying a premium on Reyes here instead of selling high on Cruz. I could have understood this trade and taken Cruz BEFORE the year started. At this point in time you should be able to do better for Cruz. He's got power in bunches and some wheels... the kid is the real deal.

I think it's a little premature to take anyone's performance too seriously isn't it? If we did that, then maybe I should offer Prince Fielder for Vernon Wells right? ;)

That being said, I see your point and that's why I'm second guessing. It's just hard to know what these young guys are going to do, because well...they've never really done it before. Maybe I can offer Cruz for Reyes + a closer and see if what he does...

I think 33 HRs and 20 SBs last year is plenty to prove that he's done it before. Everything looks like he's a go for a 35+ HR season and 15-20 bags.

I'm more concerned with what you're going to get from Reyes than from Cruz.
