Totally OT: Why no padded surfaces to protect players?

Postby mdgross50 » Fri May 03, 2013 12:41 pm

Outfield walls, foul ball territory, etc. Surely the cost of injured players on DL is worth adding some minimal-level of protection for players running around to catch pop-ups/deep drives.

I just watched Darwin Barney run awkwardly into the edge of a bench while chasing a foul ball on 1B side, and now wondering about this. Any ideas?

Resurrecting this post because it's so redonkulous that every surface that a baseball player can run into, save the ground, should be quite padded. These injuries (Harper, Puig) must cost a fortune. Do we have to petition MLB for this?

OK, I'm obviously not communicating clearly. Does anyone have any idea why such an obvious measure isn't being taken? Is it like some traditionalist with a lot of clout said that this is something that would take away from the game, a la instant replay?

Googling around was uninspiring: http://www.masnsports.com/byron_kerr/20 ... walls.html

Maybe it's just apathy.
