I've been playing around in the war room; cool tool! But I'm wondering how you came up with the category goals. They all seem a bit high to me - especially SBs. Am I shooting for 100% or more in each category? If not, what totals should I target? Maybe 80% in each? (Assuming I don't punt any categories.) I don't know if this matters but I am playing in a 5x5 weekly H2H 10 team league. Thanks!

The goals are from compiling stats from last year and what people finished with in the money... 80+% isn't bad... Closest to 100% is obviously ideal...

Well just for fun I picked a team of complete studs; basically took the best guy at each position. I expected this to generate way more than 100% of goal. In fact most categories are closer to 120%, and SBs are still less than 100%. Even with Reyes, Trout, Braun and McCutcheon. If you can't get to goal with these guys I don't see how you get there in a real draft! Can I change the goal numbers depending on my draft strategy? Thanks again...

There's a reason you didn't hit the SB total - you took big bats in both Utl slots (6 guys with less than 10 Stl each) and the targets are based on 5 OF set ups, which will usually pump the Stl a little and shave off some power. Keep in mind that even Grey's 'best fantasy team' fell a couple of percentage points short on steals, so there were obviously some really good Stl teams winning RCL leagues last season. What you're looking for is an average of 16.5 Stl per player, which might be a tall order unless you have a couple of 30-40 Stl studs and not too many hitters with Stl preventing moobs and beer guts.

You may have to work a little harder to hit that goal in Stl than some of the other categories, but it's not impossible.

I'm not saying it's easy, but it's certainly possible to come close to all of the goals if you are drafting a balanced team instead of one that is extremely HR heavy. This is an ESPN mock I did, and as Fenris said, this is with 5 OF / 1 UT / CI / MI (I'm guessing you adjusted your league size to 3 OF which would give you different goals):

That's a nice looking team. I'm really keying on guys like Desmond and Rutledge this year because the balance there really helps make the team build a little easier. I also have a lot of love for Goldschmidt this year for the same reason - those 10-15 steals are really helpful from a corner slot that you don't have to blow a first or second rounder on.

Wow Hill-o-beans that is some team! Would you mind posting the draft order (if you still have it) and maybe your overall strategy? ie Did you alternate high power (HR/RBI) guys with high speed (SB, Runs)? Did you ever focus specifically on AVG, or any 1 other category?

I've been thinking of punting either SBs (for obvious reasons) or AVG (to load up on guys like BJ Upton, Granderson, etc) because I am having so much trouble getting enough stats across all 5 hitting categories. Thiking it might be worth it to have like 90% confidence of winning 4 vs 70% of winning 5???

Also, yes I did set up my league, which is yahoo, 10 team, so thats why the goals are different I guess...

Punting a single cat in 5x5 isn't terrible, and AVG seems like the obvious punt this year (to me anyway) with so many otherwise studly dudes there for the taking. Baseball Monster is a great site for re-evaluating players based on a punt strategy btw. If you thought you could nail down all five pitching categories you could punt two hitting categories, but I think that's dicey.

Did another draft and did better this time. Last draft I had the #1 pick which I think was harder than this draft (5 of 10). Grabbing Bourne in the 9th helped a lot. Also got Aoki and Rutledge with my last 2 picks which was great for SBs.
I keep trying to grab Kimbrel - he is such a stud compared to any other closer this year - but you have to take him by early 5th round on Yahoo. Not sure if thats suicide or not...
