A little early to be talking peripherals, but I took a look at Kendrys' today. Ouch. He is swinging at everything right now. Not that he had the most discerning eye before the injury, but he may be pressing & expanding his zone a little bit. Luckily he's making more contact out of the zone right now, but if that stops or if pitchers adjust and stop throwing strikes he might have slump potential.
Stat = 2012 (career), interpretation K% = 21.4% (16.6), Striking out 29% more is not going to be good for AVG BB% = 0% (6.6), If he doesn't take pitches, pitchers are going to stop throwing strikes Contact % = 76.3% (79.8), Making less contact it not good O-swing % = 43.0% (32.8), especially if you are swinging at more 31% more pitches out of the strike zone O-contact % = 67.6% (64.7), slightly lucky to be hitting more pitches out of zone so far Z-contact % = 82.1% (89.2), whiffing on 9% more pitches in the zone doesn't bode well BABIP = .313 (.301), We could see a slight drop in AVG AVG = .262 (.284), If he hits .250 Trumbo/Abreu are going to start taking some of his ABs.
It's early and I'm not yelling SELL!, SELL!, SELL! yet, but I am keeping a close eye on him since he & Crisp are occupying my last roster spot. I have/had high hopes for him this year as I believe talent does not fade with injury. We'll see if he can be my .295/85/25/90/0 guy or if I have to hunt up another hybrid Billy Butler/Pauly Konerko clone.
