Omar Infante: All Star

Postby AdmiralTrey » Sun Jul 04, 2010 10:16 am

Uuuhhh..... I'm a huge Braves fan and all, and Infante is a great player. I have n doubt that if he was an every day player, he'd be capable of a .300 batting average.

...But he's not even an every day player, and he made the All-Star Team over Joey Votto.

I'm confused.

Yea, doesn't make any sense. Brenneman and Brantley are pissed.

I don't really blame him at all. I've been voting him for the Fan's Final Say Vote over my hometown Billy Wagner... I figure it's the least I can do after my hometown Omar Infante got in over him.

My dad thinks that ole Charlie Manuel must want to trade for Infante to replace Utley and that this is his way of making Infante want to come to Philly.

Ha, wouldn't surprise me if that's the case. Manuel just got through seeing firsthand what Votto can do and he still snubbed him. Guess the Phils don't want to admit that Votto is a better player than Ryan Howard because they just mortgaged their future to sign Howard to that ridiculous contract.

I think he'll get in there when it's all said and done; likely taking Utley's spot. I realize there are deserving players that get left out every year, but more than anything this points out that the selection process needs to be reviewed.

Edit: Actually, Prado is taking Utley's spot so we'll see if Votto gets the shaft or not

I think it is because there is a new rule that a position player can re-enter the game after leaving, so manual wanted a player that can play multiple positions. I would have went with juan uribe as my futility player but having all stars with enough at bats to qualify as an everyday player makes too much sense for good old charlie.

Yea, he wanted a utility guy. Still not a good enough reason for the league leader in OPS to stay home during the break.

Wow, I thought you were poking fun at Prado's selection to the team since he started as a super UTIL guy. Then saw Omar plastered all over articles about 'worst All-Star selection ever'. Something very wrong with selecting a guy because you want roster flexibility. This is an All-star game, right?

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.

Agreed... Among reserve 1B, Votto was more deserving than Howard and Gonzalez both, so even if Manuel uses the "Howard is my player so I picked him" argument, which he did http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/07/05/SPNU1E9K1O.DTL, Votto really still should be there. I still don't understand it.

And while we're at it... I don't get why Mat Latos didn't make it, either. Or Clayton Kershaw. One of them, preferably Kershaw since he's left-handed, should have gone over Lincecum.
And Matt Holliday < Andrew McCutchen and teammate Colby Rasmus.

Lots of interesting picks here... I hope Manuel manages the Phillies in the 2nd half like he managed the reserve selection process.

And haha, yeah, I wouldn't blast Prado; he deserves to be there and deserves to be starting. He seems to get two hits in just about every other game that he plays. It's ridiculous.

It's Bud's newest "secret" tweak to the All-Star roster - each manager has to pick an undeserving bum that can play multiple positions to better help determine home field advantage for the World Series; hence Infante and Wigginton.

Votto has the loudest argument BY FAR with Latos coming in second. Liriano has a case to state as well. This is what happens when guys like Evan Meek are sent out to Anaheim and league managers can play their political games.

Just another piece of broken Bud Selig baseball.

so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
