Just for fun, here is a team that could have been drafted. My rules included any player that was drafted in at least 1 RCL, so Alex Avila and Melky Cabrera were not eligible. Also, each player had to be taken before the draft slot of his earliest selection in the RCL.

For stat comparison, I show the average for all 456 RCL teams, the best numbers in each category, the average for all 1st place teams, and the numbers for the overall champion (Random ItalicizedVoice) and the top scorer without the competitive index (Better Lucky than Good).



This team would have set new bests in Ks, Wins, ERA, and WHIP, while beating the average for 1st place teams in all other categories.



Of course, if I had drafted this team, I would have messed it up by dropping players early anyways.

This is so cool. I always think about doing this kind of thing at the end of every season but rarely actually get around to it.

Stuff like this also shows me that it can work to take some established pitching early. This example is extreme, though, with 7 pitchers in the first 10 rounds. Serious hindsight required. It also reminds me to trust in what you actually know about a given player and their potential, and that just because player X is a unanimous Y round draft pick, sometimes overdrafting can pay off. If someone had actually drafted this way, they probably would have gotten laughed at for a good number of these picks. But as it turns out, it ends up being a fantasy all-star team.
