Steve's (Not so) Secret Slow Draft

Postby Steve » Tue Mar 30, 2010 2:40 am

It's finally done! 12-team 5 x 5 Roto at CBS. 5 x OF, CI, MI, 9 x P, 6 x Bench, 1 x Minor Leaguer. Excuses added below as appropriate. I've since picked up Massett to round out my bench. I kept track against the "Winning It" numbers all the way along and it stacks up pretty well. Fire away...

9 Cabrera, Miguel (1B DET)
16 Wright, David (3B NYM)
33 Granderson, Curtis (OF NYY)
40 Reyes, Jose B. (SS NYM) - Someone had to. The good news on the thyroid came shortly afterwards.
57 Lester, Jon (P BOS)
64 Jones, Adam (OF BAL)
81 Jimenez, Ubaldo (P COL)
88 Ibanez, Raul (OF PHI)
105 Uggla, Dan (2B FLA) - Not a Razzball favourite, but wanted to stave off a power shortage and felt I had the AVE to sustain him. Decent value too.
112 Bell, Heath (P SD)
129 Baker, Scott (P MIN)
136 Beltran, Carlos (OF NYM) - Worth the risk at this point.
153 Damon, Johnny (OF DET) - Boring, but balanced. Good value too.
160 Aardsma, David (P SEA)
177 Buchholz, Clay (P BOS) - Was autopicked. Maybe not the best guy from this tier, but good enough hopefully.
184 Gonzalez, Mike (P BAL)
201 Reimold, Nolan (OF BAL) - Picked him before this platooning nonsense broke. Ah well.
208 Napoli, Mike (C ANA) Punt!
225 Santana, Ervin (P ANA) - Yet another AL pitcher, but not a bad 5th starter.
232 Desmond, Ian (SS WAS) - For the MI slot. Teacher's Pet strikes again!
249 Lyon, Brandon (P HOU) - Keeping it in the family
256 Kennedy, Ian (P ARI)
273 Headley, Chase (OF SD) - Don't normally punt CI this far, but not a bad option this late.
280 Maybin, Cameron (OF FLA) - Reimold insurance. Not like for like obviously, but worth the flier here.
297 Wuertz, Michael (P OAK)
304 Alvarez, Pedro (3B PIT) - My minor leaguer
321 Sanchez, Gaby (1B FLA) Sh*t! I forgot! Beltran will start the season on the DL! Wait - I can move Headley to OF, but I'll need another CI. Oh. Where did everybody go?
328 Adams, Mike M. (P SD) - Money. Even handier if Bell gets traded.
This IS my f**king outlet!

I think you grabbed Raul too early. In the three real drafts I've done so far he's fallen to 120+ (at the earliest). In one he didn't get picked until after 150. Maybe I'm the outlier, but I think people are overcompensating for him coming back to earth. Damon for some reason is going super late too. I've seen him go 20 picks or more after where you grabbed him. Still, I don't think you overpaid.

Everything else looks solid.

Is Rolen a better option at the corner than Gaby?

Only until Beltran is back and then I can move Headley back to CI...

Or should I just go for the rookie nookie?

Kotchman, Mora and Andy LaRoche are the only other likely suspects...

I'd ride on Gaby for now, let's see what he does.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

Besides the Headley/Sanchez massacre, which hopefully plays out in our favor, the hitting looks fine. I don't mind the Ibanez and Uggla picks here, you were stacking up on guys you can count on, I can understand that. Probably should've been a post at some point, but it's a lot better to do that than reach for sleepers and have no one you can count on as I see some teams have. Really solid pitchign too. I think you did real well, Steve. Nice team.

(115) OF: T Hunter -- Wanted a little stability in the OF, and an angel in the OF

(126) P: C Marmol -- K's
(198) P: O Dotel -- K's
(211) P: M Capps -- Sagnof
(235) P: F Morales -- Sagnof

Roberts at 91 is good value, but I think you might be light on steals even with him; I count about 120 steals with Roberts. That's fixable though and besides that your hitting decent. Not stellar, but should be competitive. Your pitching looks pretty weak after your top guys. You might have only 2 and a 1/2 SPs.

Yeah, probably will end up switching out Stubbs for some sagnof. Didn't realize how thin my pitching was until throwing them up there. Not going to be easy to rectify that, but, thems the breaks!

Gracias Grey!
