My first ever 14 man roto draft, how did I do?

Postby rightwingjedi » Thu Mar 25, 2010 11:23 am

14man 5x5 seasonal roto.

I have never done a 14 man league and was worried heading in but my rankings seemed to work nicely with the CBS pre rank. I found a lot of undervalued guys.

I decided to pass up some decent early Sp picks to load on on hitters.

14- Matt Holliday
15- David Wright
42- BJ Upton
43- Joey Votto
70- Yovani Gallardo
71-Brandon Phillips
98-Joakim Soria
99- Gordon Beckham
126-Ian Stewart
127- Andrew McCutchen
154- Elvis Andrus
155- Matt Garza
182- Chad Qualls
183- Jay Bruce
210- Magglio Ordonez
211- Jason Frasor
238- Aaron Harang
239- Francisco Liriano
266- John Baker
267- Lastings Milledge
294- Ricky Romero
295- Jonathan Sanchez
322- Cameron Maybin
323- Carlos Guillen

The rest were reserves

Carl Pavano
Matt LaPorta
Pat Neshek
Ryan Madson
Anibal Sanchez

So here is my lineup for week one

C- John Bakers
1B- Joey Votto
2B- Brandon Phillips
SS- Elvis Andrus
MI- Gordon Beckham
3B- David Wright
CI- Ian Stewart
OF- Matt Holliday
OF- BJ Upton
OF- Andrew McCutchen
OF- Lastings Milledge
OF- Magglio Ordonez
U- Carlos Guillen
U- Cameron Maybin

P- Yovani Gallardo
P- Matt Garza
P- Aaron Harang
P- Francisco Liriano
P- Jonathan Sanchez
P- Ricky Romero
P- Joakim Soria
P- Chad Qualls
P- Jason Frasor

Looks like a pitching staff that could give you some problems. That's fine though in a 14 team league. You can't have anything. Your hitting looks decent, not great. Your average and outfield will be an issue. These:

OF- Lastings Milledge
OF- Magglio Ordonez
U- Carlos Guillen

Are pretty useless. Maybe one pans out, the other two are waiver wire fodder.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

OK, thanks for the advice.

In a 14 man league, what is a game winning strategy on pitching?

Also, I have read some "what it takes to win" articles before but the numbers are for 12 man leagues, what kind of numbers would it take to aim for 2nd in all categories in a 14 man?
