I did something stupid and decided to see what it would be like taking Longoria at pick #6 in r1 (12 team h2h) rather than Teixieira because of the 1B 'depth'. I know it's pretty bad for average but I kind of like the result.

It's a shallow hitting league that, yeah, it does look fine. No real harm done. Maybe some average from Tex you missed. And it's not like Longoria's good on average, so that further drove that home. Your pitching is a bit of a mess though. I like the guys you have, but in moderation. There's a lot of risk on your staff. You might need to make some trades depending n how well you work the waiver wire.

you know you are a razzballer when every team you see has the usual suspects. I like this team, aside from your outfield (just dont like grandy/grady that much) and the obvious average concerns.

This is just a mock - I'm being a little OCD trying to get my drafting strategy down because it's my first time playing fantasy baseball - I draft for real this sunday. I have no idea what my competition will be like so I figure to more mocks I do, the more likely it will be I'll see something like what will happen in my real draft. In my recent couple of mocks I've been targeting Verlander in round 5 (he went the pick before me here) or Lester in round 6 (two picks before me). Then I kind of fell into the trap - picked Jimenez expecting Kershaw, Wandy, Hamels, Nolasco et al to remain available but they were off the board before I could get to them. I keep missing the Billingsley, Garza, Weaver sweet spot in most of my drafts and suddenly it's round 13 and Oswalt is the best pitcher available.

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking Longoria in the 1st, but 6 might be a little high. I'm drafting 11th in my league & I'll be targeting Longoria if he's there. With the 1B depth there's usually 2-3 top guys (Tex,Cab, or Howard) still on the board, so I can grab them with the 14th pick - although Howard/Long will hurt my avg., but it's H2H. Nothing wrong with that strategy, but at 6, you're probably not getting one of those top 1B guys in the 2nd. I'd prob. grab Tex, then go for Wright & if he's not there, grab best available hitter & grab Zimm/Youk in 3/4.

I am in the same boat - trying to gauge when to take your SPs is the toughest part. I know that when the real draft starts, people reach for SP, so it's tough to know. I am rarely seeing Lester drop to round 6.
