The Y! Effect

Postby strikeone » Tue Mar 23, 2010 5:28 pm

In preparation for my first fantasy baseball season, I've been doing as many mock drafts as possible over the last few days. I've noticed that there are a couple of sub 100 razzball ranked players are lasting very very late in the draft more than likely because their Y! rankings aren't so good. I have no real idea about how smart the other people in my league will be but at this point I have to imagine our real draft will go a lot like the mocks. This is 12 team mock yahoo default rosters (3xOF 2xUTIL) Here are the players:

Josh Hamilton - round 8-9
Carlos Quentin - at LEAST there until round 10 in all drafts I've done. Snagged him as late as round 16-17
Alfonso Soriano - round 15 or later every time
Alex Rios - ditto

Is it worthwhile going to the well for pitching early knowing that these guys will most likely be there late?

No, because those guys are far from sure things. But in a 3 OF league, you can ignore outfield a bit more. I'd grab one top outfielder. And one to two midrange ones. You listed midrange ones.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.
