So I was thinking about going after Martin. Since I have four top closers in Pap, Rauch, Saito, and Soria and the other guy just picked up Hoffman I think I found my angle. What would a package for Martin look like? Or maybe, if you had Martin on your team, what would you look for in return?

See as a Sox fan I place more value on Paps than a catcher. This is one reason I got rid of my Red Sox, I was overvaluing them.
I will try a fourth offer. I have had some success with recent trades just by offering a variety of moves or options. Cuts down on the back and forth crap only to find out they don't REALLY want to trade.
A: Give Rauch and Pudge; get Martin and an open spot on my roster
B: Give Pence, Pudge, Soria; get Martin, Lester, Hardy (I know, I know Lester is on the Sox)
C: Give Rauch and Bruce; get Hardy and Lester
D: Give Pap; get Martin

Let me know if you look at these offers and if I am overpaying or underpaying and I can snag them back off the table.
Also, I know Hardy may not play out all that great the rest of the year but right now I have Hairston and Tulo sitting on DL.
The other team wanted to try and move a pitcher for a closer but I am not big on his pitching staff. Sanchez and Lester grabbed my attention but I think (didn't research) Lester looks better.

Well he didn't like either one. He then countered with me sending Markakis/Pap/Bruce and me getting Hardy/Ethier/Lester. How quick did you think I rejected? I countered with Bruce/Pence/Rauch for Martin/Peralta. Basically, it ain't gonna happen. I had to explain to him to look at the current value and think in terms of trades like gambling on potential based on past performance while being fair.

He didn't even go for Paps for Martin? That's fair. I wouldn't do it, but it's fair.

I wouldn't do it either but then again aren't we talking about flippin' closers for position players. You, me, BVV, and hopefully a lot of Razzball readers wouldn't do it.

I think your undervaluing Martins value or at least undervalueing what the average fantasy player thinks of him. Catcher is a very thin position, off the top of my head there are prob only 5-6 catchers in the game who I'd feel sured up that position on my taem. In no order, top tier guys would be Mauer, Martin, Molina, Mcann, Soto and I guess you'd have to slide Doumit and Posada in here as well. I'd personally be very reluctant to use my catcher position to sure up any holes in my lineup since trading one of those top guys opens up an even bigger hole. On top of all that, Martin is even more unique because he swipes the occasional bag.

I probably wouldn't even trade Pudge and Paps for Martin but that's prob just me.
