Offered Youk for Verlander

Postby mrmalcs » Thu Jul 09, 2009 5:04 pm

A while back I was trying to lure Reynolds because I wanted to keep him long term. I wasn't able make the deal. Now a guy wants to trade Youk to me for Verlander.

In our league we can keep 5 guys. As an expansion team this year, I was allowed to pull two keepers from an expansion pool. (I chose Beltran and BJ Upton) At the end of this season I'm allowed to keep two more and then I can make my final keeper choice after the 2010 season. Originally, I was planning on keeping A-Gon and Rollins however with Rollins' year this year I'm planning to punt. I don't think Aaron Hill is keeper quality so I have an open keeper slot.

Independant of this trade, is Youk a keeper worthy guy in a 12 team league that allows 5 keepers per team?

Is Verlander too high a price to pay for Youk for the remainder of this season?

Note: In this league there is a penalty for dropping a keeper. You can not fill that slot until the end of the following season. So I have to choose my keepers very wisely.

Thanks,

Youk's keeper worthy, but that is a high price to pay.

Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.

Do you have the pitchers to trade away Verlander? Doesn't seem like it to me.

Who do you envision putting up the best all around fantasy points for the remainder of this year?

Youk, J. Upton, Adam Jones

Are J. Upton or Adam Jones keeper worthy in my league?

Should I offer this guy Kershaw or Wandy for any of these three considering I could pick up one of the guys listed below off waivers?

Piniero
Contreras
Correia
Braden
Jeff Weaver

or for some vultured wins, random saves and a strong K rate

K. Calero
P. Hughes
M. Wuertz
M. Thornton

Upton, Youk, Jones...

They're all keeper worthy.

I'd offer either, in that order for any of them.

What do you think of the offer I just put out?

Give: Verlander, Dunn
Get: Youk, Upton

I'm getting:

4 Pts in RBI; 11 more would get me to 7 Pts
5 Pts in R; 11 more would get me to 8 Pts
7 Pts in SB; 7 more would get me to 10 Pts
1 Pts in AVG; .013 more would get me to 7 Pts

By realizing all these improvements I'd be looking at 15 PTs to the upside. Then I'd claim Dallas Braden off waivers (for some reason I've wanted this guy on my squad all season and have never picked him up). This would essentially be a wash at ERA and WHIP but would likely cost me heavily at K and a bit at W. But likely not a 15 PT drop, maybe 6.

Also this gives me the option of keeping two of Youk, Upton, A-Gon and J-Rol at the end of the season.

You like this for me?

The guy countered with:

I give: Verlander

I get: Youk, G. Floyd

I'd then drop. M. Izturis.

I hate to give up Verlander. Am I getting enough improvement at 3B (currently plattooning the hot hand between Blalock, Fox and Rolen) to justify accepting this trade?

I stated above that I don't think you have the pitchers to lose Verlander, but I think you ignored that. If you feel like you have the pitchers, then go for it.
