So I was trying to trade Derek Lowe and another player to get a stud pitcher. Like a week ago I send this trade out to a guy in my league-

Give: Lowe and A Jones

Get: Peavy

I know he has checked his team every day since then, no reply on the trade. Then, immediately after Peavy's injury report comes out, he accepts the trade. Should I lobby for a league veto here or what?

It's a pretty jerk move on his part. In my league we have the gentleman's rule which prevents this kind of action. Very similar incident happened with Sizemore this year in my league, and they ended up reversing the trade. If I were you, I'd explain the situation to the league, and that you offered the trade before Peavy was officially out for a few months and before you could take it down, the other guy accepted. Hopefully the rest of the league will have enough common sense - or at least the commish will and hopefully manually reverse it if it goes through.

Definitely lobby for a veto.

It should be an implied rule that a owner will not accept a trade in such circumstances. In contract law, an offer is deemed revoked when the subject matter of the contract is destroyed. (I assume that "destroyed" is a malleable term-- for example, if you offered me $ for my house, then half of it burnt down, and then I accepted, a court would deem the offer revoked-- though it's been a while since I studied contracts). While Peavy has not been destroyed, I would say that a player being placed on the DL (especially indefinitely, as it seems with Peavy) virtually destroys the player's value in fantasy baseball. So, analogizing from contract law, which actually probably applies here, there is an implied revocation of your offer when the thing that you will be receiving loses a significant portion of its value.

Not sure if this helps, but if you wanted to sue, you probably would win!

Outcome: trade NOT vetoed.

I posted a message on the board and I sent everyone an e-mail outlining why the trade should be vetoed. It is beyond outrageous the way this deal was accepted and then not voted against by people in my league.

I know that everyone checks their team every day. What I think it comes down to is that I am laying pipe on these fools and they saw this trade as detrimental to me and strategically beneficial to them. It never ceases to amaze me how viscerally childish adults they are in a position to benefit themselves.
