Looking for objective opinions on my 2008 trading record.
1. In-(RP) JJ Putz Out-(3B) Mike Lowell When- Mid April Why-Had "punted" saves and was looking to deal depth for a bonafide closer. Was dead last in saves and had A-Rod at 3B and dependable Pronk/Helton/Butler to play 1B and CI. Was offered Hoffman and responded with Putz. He also had Nathan and perhaps I should have shot for the moon. Result- Losing Lowell and having Hafner and Butler suck ass put me so far behind in hitting I had to unload 3 Grade A- starting pitchers as discussed later.
2. In- (SS) Jimmy Rollins Out- (SP) Tim Hudson, (RP) Brian Wilson, (SS) Orlando Cabrera When- May 1 Why- Actually, a shot in the dark. I was dominating pitching and was looking at who had bad pitching and put together this deal. Of course, O-Cab was my starting SS and like Pork Burn says, this is never acceptable. Result- Rollins has been dissappointing but I'd do it again. I'm still dominating pitching and my SB's are near the top. Wilson was a classic sell high.
3. In- (1B) Prince Fielder, (OF) Adam Dunn, (SP) Chad Gaudin Out- (SP) Felix Hernandez, (SP) Dan Haren, (OF) Willy Tavares When- Mid May Why- Had a massive lead in pitching but was dead last in hitting. Had offered some big trades (Hernandez++ for hanley or Berkman, Hamels for Miggy) etc. when this rolled across my desk. Thought about dicking around and counter offering but just pulled the trigger. Result- A win-win. I checked today and we are 1-2 in the league in the past 30 days. He may have "won" the trade but my team is better than it was.
