Alright so I'm in need of a catcher. I am hoping that my man-crush on Wieters is reasonable because I don't want to give too much in order to get him. But I do feel like the upside is substantial enough to give up additional value. His owner is a very very savvy guy so it's not like I'm going to be able to pull a fast one or anything.

12 team roto 5x5. My team is in my signature. Here's his team:

VMart
A Gonz
Hudson
Sandoval
Rollins
Markakis
C Lee
Soo Choo
Holliday
Fowler
Atkins
Wieters
DL: Iwamura
DL: Alex Gordon

Oswalt
Lester
Jenks
Qualls
Wandy
Volstad
F Hernandez
Slowey
Baker

So the thing I think might work is he's weak on steals so maybe I toss Franklin and someone at him. Would Franklin and Wolf potentially get it done? I doubt it very much. I was also thinking Franklin and J.D. Drew perhaps? What do you guys think?

I think you'll probably have to do better than that given the mass amount of hype surrounding Super Matt at this point. He has a ton of mid-range (risky?) pitchers so I can't possibly see how Wolf would help his cause.

I think you'd be better off waiting for Wieters to look human in the bigs and then make a move in a week or so. Its possible he'll come out on fire and never look back, but most likely he'll need some time to settle in. Even Ramirez, Braun and Longoria had their ups and downs after their big league starts.

I agree with you.... Hopefully he'll struggle out of the box (it would be awesome if you're correct about that as well) and his value will depress somewhat. This guy is real savvy though this isn't a keeper league but he grabbed him off waivers beginning of the year first thing and now he's posting him up for sale. He knows some idiot w/ no catching will probably give up way too much for this guy. He's probably right. I just feel like giving up Josh Johnson, Carpenter, even Hardy for him would be insane for me.

It's worth trying a package with Wolf, but unless everyone in your league is as savvy, someone will overpay for him. You'd almost have to give up a front line pitcher or possibly Upton or Jones to replace Fowler. You couldn't touch your infield which is where he needs the most help. Pitching is really all you have to offer without hurting your team. Salty is serviceable and there's no guarantee Wieters will be a ton better. I just don't think its a trade that needs to be made.

Very good point. I mean he won't be playing him over V Mart so it's not like that makes his team more dangerous. I like my pitching but I feel like an injury or two could really devastate it so I don't want to put myself in that situation by trading any front line guys away. I am banking on my infield creating enough differential to make it tough on my opponents to keep up. If my outfielders would start producing that'd help also. Thank you for your insights and helping to keep me from doing something crazy!

My pleasure, but if Wieters goes 4 for 4 with two homers tonight let's pretend I was high on pain killers :).
