I have the 1st pick in what is the 12th round. My plan was to take Rutledge, but I have a feeling he might be kept. Is it worth offering Tex to secure him?

I think that is an over-pay. Rutledge is a decent player with some upside of being a 20/20 guy. But he isn't that player yet and shouldn't be valued at that level. Tex is one year removed from being a 39 HR and 111 RBI. While the BA will never be that good, his production at the other areas can still be very good.

Rutledge is getting over-valued right now which means you have to over-pay to get him and lose any chance of winning the trade. If you deal him for Tex, then he has to become a 20/20 guy and if he struggles as most young hitters do, then you will lose this deal pretty easily.

I would not make that deal.
