EDIT: IGNORE POST #1 - SEE POST #7
Hey guys, I'm really going back and forth on a deal in my dynasty league. 12-team Auction H2H points league with $125 cap, 40 man roster and the players are signed to contracts from 1-3 years. After a contract expires, a player can be retained for double his current price for the following season (player X signs for .25 for 1 year, the following season can be doubled for .50, and then $1.00 the year after and $2.00 the year after, etc.). My roster is as follows:
C - Wilin Rosario, $0.25/1 year 1B - Chris Davis, $2.00/1 year 2B - Robinson Cano, $20.00/2 years 3B - Chase Headley, $2.00/1 year SS - Erick Aybar, $1.75/1 year OF - Bryce Harper, $1.00/1 year OF - Michael Bourn, $4.00/1 year OF - Desmond Jennings, $3.50 (if re-signed) DH - Jesus Montero, $2.00/1 year
Bench
C - Yasmani Grandal, $0.50/2 years SS - Jhonny Peralta, $1.75/1 year SS - Dee Gordon, $0.25/1 year
Pitching
SP - Madison Bumgarner, $2.00/1 year SP - Brett Anderson, $2.00/1 year SP - Brandon Morrow, $4.00/1 year SP - Wei-Yin Chen, $0.25/2 years SP - Andy Pettitte, $2.00/1 year RP -
Bench
SP - Jaime Garcia, $0.50/1 year SP - Lance Lynn, $1.50/1 year SP - Bud Norris, $0.50/1 year SP - Tim Stauffer, $0.50/1 year SP - Randall Delgado, $0.50/1 year SP - Brad Peacock, $1.25/2 years RP - Heath Bell, $1.25/1 year
Minors
SS - Xander Bogaerts, $0.50/2 years OF - Bubba Starling, $1.25/2 years OF - Byron Buxton, $0.25/2 years SP - Archie Bradley, $1.50/2 years SP - Kevin Gausman, $0.50/2 years
A few unsavory characters stuck on my roster for the time being obviously. It happens in this league. No free agency to help during the season either. Anyway, the deal I'm debating whether I should do is:
-Jesus Montero, $2 for a year, so $4 next season if he's kept (eligibility rules in this league mean there's about an 80% chance he's DH-only and does not have catcher eligibility) -Bud Norris, $0.50 for a year -Heath Bell, $1.25 for a year
for
-Trevor Bauer, $4.50 for two years
Strikeouts are worth a half-point, wins are worth 10, innings are worth 2, ER are worth -2. In other words, pitching is certainly valuable, and more importantly, strikeout pitchers are coveted. The question is, do you think Montero will see a major uptick in his sophmore season with the fences moved in at Safeco? Does Bauer make his impact now? Does it take a while? It's a very tricky deal. He isn't particularly cheap, but two years at $4.50 with a manageable $9 re-sign in 2015 is fully worth it if he can reach his potential quickly, as it's harder to find arms than DHs. Would love to hear thoughts! Thanks guys!
