Replacing Weeks

Postby Dingbat » Tue May 19, 2009 10:00 am

I just lost my beloved 2B, so now I'm trying to decide whether I'm okay with starting Felipe Lopez for the rest of the season or trying to trade my 1B depth to get a better 2B. I like having Felipe as a super-sub for Reyes, Reynolds, and whoever ends up as my starting 2B, but I'm not sure if it's better to save my trading chips to go for a 3B upgrade or a stud SP. In this scenario, my potential trade partner has Casey Blake as his starting 1B and the following middle infielders: Brandon Phillips, Alexei Ramirez, Marco Scutaro, Aaron Hill, and Yunel Escobar. I offered Nick Johnson & Adam LaRoche for Alexei, and he countered with Alexei + Ziegler for Franklin + Weaver. He also mentioned that Scutaro and Hill could be had for the proper price. He needs the most help in pitching categories, but he's also behind in HRs and Rs.

I'm in 1st or 2nd in almost all pitching categories, but I'm not confident enough in my pitching staff to want to trade a SP for anything other than another SP in return. Would it be nuts to offer Votto for Hill?

Votto for Hill is fair, but I think F. Lopez could give you more or less the same numbers as Weeks would've gave you on the year.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

Thanks for the response. I agree that Felipe's production would be good, but it's a question of opportunity cost. If I start Lopez at 2B, he's not available to cover for Jose Reyes during his current absence (which could turn out to be longer still). So have to choose between leaving the spot empty or filling in with some Lugo/Renteria/Zobrist fill-in. I'm interested in Callaspo as a back-up MI, but he's currently owned by another manager with a weak 1B situation. If I could trade Nick Johnson or Adam LaRoche for Callaspo, would that make more sense?

Thanks!

LaRoche or Nick Johnson for Callaspo is fine, seems like an unnecessary move though.

I see your point, but since I just picked up Kendry Morales to replace LaRoche, I don't think the move cost me anything.
