Buy-Low Berkman #2

Postby Dingbat » Thu Apr 30, 2009 11:59 am

One of these days I'm going to actually pull off one of these trades I keep thinking about. Here's the latest:

The guy in last place in my league has Lance Berkman and lives in San Francisco. He's close to last in everything except HR, RBI, W, and SV. I proposed (merely as an opening salvo): my Adam LaRoche and Matt Cain for his Lance Berkman.

He countered with Berkman and Todd Coffey (!) for Cain and Votto. I've got no interest in Coffey, and I'd be willing to part with Votto if the return was good enough, but I feel like Votto plus Cain is too much for Berkman alone. Any other permutations you can see that might work out better? As before, my biggest needs so far are Runs and SBs, though I could use some help with all of my offensive categories.

His roster:
C: Napoli
1B: Berkman
2B: Kendrick
3B: Atkins
SS: Hanley
OF: Soriano
OF: McLouth
OF: Ordonez
Util: Cameron
Util: Konerko
BN: Inge, Posada, Jose Lopez, Hardy

SP: Millwood, Lohse, F-Her, Sanchez, Buehrle, Dice-K
RP: Nathan, Cordero, Wilson, Coffey
DL: Webb, Duch
10-Team Roto, 7x7 (5x5 + H,OPS,K/BB,QS)

C: Evan Gattis
1B: Edwin Encarnacion
2B: Brian Dozier
SS: Troy Tulowitzki
3B: Manny Machado
OF: Jose Bautista
OF: Charlie Blackmon
OF: Melky Cabrera
UT: Anthony Rizzo
UT: Ben Revere
BN: Gregory Polanco, Brandon Belt, Josh Harrison

SP: Jordan Zimmermann
RP: Koji Uehara
P: Hisashi Iwakuma
P: Masahiro Tanaka
P: Hyun-jin Ryu
P: Joaquin Benoit
P: Jenrry Mejia
P: Brad Boxberger
BN: Jake McGee, Matt Shoemaker, Danny Salazar, Brandon McCarthy

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

That sounds good -- I like the idea of using my surplus in closers to upgrade (presumably) from Votto to Berkman.

But I'd still like to sell high on Cain, if I can. Any ideas on possible trades involving him?

Thanks again for all of your helpful suggestions. You've got a long overdue daquiri coming from me once I remember my paypall password.

I don't think Cain's a sell high and I'd want at least McLouth.

Sadly, Hoffman & Votto was rejected -- Saves is one of the few categories where he doesn't need any help.

Meanwhile, I'm still in discussions with the guy who needs closers and has a surplus of OFs, including Hamilton, Bay, Granderson, Dunn, Ibanez, and Victorino. I offered Fuentes & Ethier for Bay, but he's only interested in Rivera or one of my top pitchers (Halladay or Vazquez). He's offered Granderson for Rivera in the past, so I assume he'd be interested in that still. I'm sort of tempted, but it depends on which version of Granderson I'd get. 2007 would be worth it, but 2008 not so much. Then again, I think this sequence might leave me better off overall:

1) Mariano Rivera for Curtis Granderson
2) Andre Ethier and Matt Cain for Lance Berkman (if accepted)
10-Team Roto, 7x7 (5x5 + H,OPS,K/BB,QS)

C: Evan Gattis
1B: Edwin Encarnacion
2B: Brian Dozier
SS: Troy Tulowitzki
3B: Manny Machado

Sweet. Both trade offers have been accepted, and now I await the BABIP regression.
