Cano v. Scherzer

Postby sabs » Mon Jun 09, 2008 8:56 am

Now that these newfangled forums are up, it seemed like as good a time as any to jump into the fray over here.

I've been offered Cano for Scherzer in a deep 12-team mixed points league that counts holds. My middle infield is a disaster, as I drafted the concussed Aaron Hill and Tulo as my DP combo and I have no DL slots. I've held Tulo and will do the same with Hill, but with Wigginton in my MI spot I have no 2b to fill in for Hill at the moment. All this makes me want to pull the trigger on the deal. My starting rotation is solid right now, but I'm afraid the wheels will come off for a guy or two. Currently my starters are Webb, Duchscherer, Contreras, Myers, Pettitte, Wolf, and Kuroda, and I'm holding Snell on my bench in hopes that he finds himself. If the Scherz gets another shot at starting, I imagine it will be a shot in the arm for my smoke-and-mirrors staff. Should I make the deal? I should also point out that this is not a keeper league.

If it were a keeper league, I'd say don't do it, but the law of averages says that his. 240 BABIP is in his favor to turn it around. I'd do it since holds guys are a dime a dozen.
14 team h2h keeper (keep 5), $101 FAAB budget. C,1B,2B,SS,3B,MI,CI,U,5SP,2RP... It's standard 5x5, but we use quality starts instead of wins. I currently have $1 left in FAAB money.

I'd do that trade quickfast.

Cano can turn things around and be very vaulable.

Scherzer can make it to the rotation and will still have a IP limit and like IowaCubs said, holds guys are out there.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

I think this is a great trade for you. Cano will be a much more valuable asset for the rest of the season. Even if Max gets another shot at starting, he's still a rookie pitcher (see Cueto, Jonathan) and will likely be inconsistent, at best, like 99% of promising rookie SPs.

Not to mention Scherzer has ZERO holds at this point.

Thanks for all the feedback, I accepted the trade this morning. Wasn't concerned with Scherzer's holds so much, but instead the potential for holds and his stellar K rate. You all are right, though; Cano will be a boon to my middle infield and I should have jumped on it to begin with.
