Extreme! Mock Football Draft Strat

Postby moneybawl » Sat Jul 18, 2009 11:44 am

So I was talking position scarcity with Hank, and for all my mock football drafts leading up to this year I'm drafting only RB/WR until my bench spots are full. In the following ESPN 10 person mock draft that worked out to the first 12 rounds were limited to only running backs or wide receivers. Here are the results...

Rd. 1—Chris Johnson--prolly should be LT
Rd. 2—Steve Slaton
Rd. 3—Marshawn Lynch
Rd. 4—Dwayne Bowe
Rd. 5—Antonio Bryant
Rd. 6—DeSean Jackson
Rd. 7—Knowshon Moreno
Rd. 8—Chris Wells
Rd. 9—Michael Crabtree
Rd. 10—Jerricho Cotchery--Had the choice between #1 Jets WR option or #3 Arizona WR Steve Breaston
Rd. 11—Ted Ginn Jr.
Rd. 12—LeSean McCoy--Mostly liked the idea of a DeLeSean Philly handcuff, still doesn't make up for not getting all three first round running backs.

Here we go...
Rd. 13—Matt Hasselbeck--ugh, missed Trent Edwards by five picks. So I ended up with the 19th QB taken, 'passed' over Delhomme, Bulger, persons from Cleveland, Flacco, Campbell, Pennington, Hill, JaMarcus Russell, Bulger, Collins.
Rd. 14—Tony Scheffler--pretty sweet, I would have been happy with Martellus Bennett.
Rd. 15—Texans
Rd. 16—Ryan Succop

Done and Done
Thoughts?
Where is the best place for mock drafts?

http://fantasyfootballcalculator.com/ Is the best place for mocks I've found this year.

I think the strategy is an interesting one, but I think you could have gone for a QB before Moreno/Wells/Crabtree and still gotten 2 of those 3. Hass is just too much of a risk at QB. He would work as a backup, but you need at least 2 decent QB's especially if you aren't getting one of the big guys early on.
Johnny Ringo: All right, 'lunger'. Let's do it.

The above mock draft results were via fantasy football calculator. Too many wide receivers, I would have been happier had I gotten Donald Brown but I made up for it by not even drafting a kicker, good times.

Yeah, you are stacked at WR for sure! I like Edwards more with TO there, but as your only QB you would be giving up a lot to your opposition at the QB slot. Two Edwards type QB's would work as long as you are playing matchups, but there really is no reason to have good WR on the bench when you could have got Orton or Schaub or someone like that.

It's fine to punt kicker for sure!
