Keeper League first two picks advice

Postby AdmiralTrey » Fri Aug 31, 2012 12:32 pm

I've got the third and seventh overall picks in a keeper league this year thanks to a bunch of people keeping guys in the first and second rounds. I already know that the first manager is going to take Ray Rice and the second manager is going to take Arian Foster... I also know that the manager after me is planning on taking Drew Brees. I plan on taking Tom Brady with my first pick and am wavering on my second pick... Here are the top twenty players available per Yahoo!'s default rankings with Brady bolded as my planned first pick and the players that should be gone with Italics:

Arian Foster
Ray Rice
Darren McFadden
Tom Brady
Chris Johnson
Drew Brees
Larry Fitzgerald
A.J. Green
Jamaal Charles
Roddy White
Trent Richardson
DeMarco Murray
Andre Johnson
Steven Jackson
Greg Jennings
Jordy Nelson
Adrian Peterson
Hakeem Nicks
Percy Harvin
Wes Welker

Two other players will be taken here... If McFadden or Johnson is there should I jump on either of them for my flex spot or should I grab either Roddy White or A.J. Green to start filling in my WR core (I think Fitzgerald will be gone)? I have fairly weak keepers overall with Mathews being hurt so I'm not sure if I should address my weaker running backs or my absence of any WR's first.

Based on Razz rankings Chris Johnson seems like the pick to make; is it worth getting him and then waiting 8 more selections to get a WR with my third round pick? I should be able to snag Nicks, Harvin, or Welker with that third round pick.

Oh, and I stupidly dropped DeMarco Murray the last week of the season trying to win my playoff match up and forgetting about keepers otherwise I could have kept him in the 17th round and the answer here would be much more clear. Yeah...

I guess I should also mention that I have an offer of Matthew Stafford and Matt Forte for Tom Brady from a rabid Patriots fan whose first pick is after mine. Not sure if I want to play with Stafford's health questions but if he and Forte are healthy that'd be a solid trade and could change my outlook on running backs in the draft...

How would that trade affect your keepers? Maybe I'm reading your question wrong...

My bad, it wouldn't affect my keeper choices but it might affect how I draft... Obviously I'd have to take Brady, but if I know I'm getting Stafford and Forte for him would that make a WR more logical for me to take in the second round than Chris Johnson?
With two flex spots I could start Forte, Mathews, Johnson, and Wells but would I be better off targeting someone like Roddy White or AJ Green?

Gotcha. Yeah, I'd go WR at that point. No reason not to if you have Forte and can push Beanie down to flex.

Thanks Sky, that's what I was thinking would be wise, I just wanted to make sure... It's hard to resist the allure of Chris Johnson in the second round.
