Sonavabench!

Today Beltran does nothing again as usual. At least Milledge comes up big again.

I also thank Cliff Lee and Big Jim Thome, carrying my team.

Regroup.
--------

Beltran 0 for 7 since. So in the last 3 games, I've gotten an 0 for 10 out of him, while missing a huge game in the middle. The more I think about it, the more astounding my bad luck or my lack of picking ability is to me.

I know that I am not supposed to sit my "studs," but Beltran hasn't been playing like one, and I have been sticking with him pretty much all year except when I finally get sick of mediocrity and give in to using a hot hitter (this time, Milledge). I checked the game log, he is 10 for 19 with 2 hr and 8 rbi when I have benched him -- most of the damage from the last 2 games in his last 2 months.

Damn, I picked up Denys Reyes yesterday to help me in HLDs. I initially put him in the lineup then one of my RPs picked up a HLD last nite to gimme some breathing room in that category, so I switched M Gonzalez back in the lineup over Reyes before I logged off.

And of course Reyes gets a cheap win, one that I could have used. Lousy ATL will win, but no save as usual unless SF rallies bigtime.

I am putting in a claim on Hanrahan and waiving Gonzalez. I don't care anymore. H won't save many either, but at least he is SP eligible, giving me an extra slot to use Reyes at the same time.

I am sick of these guys who pitch well but almost never rack up any wins or saves.

I hate when I have a win of any sort on my bench. I think those are the most frustrating because of their infrequency (Dennis Quaid movie!).

HLDs can be a really cheap category. For example, the team I am tied in HLDs with has gotten his last two HLDs when his two lefty RPs lasted 1/3 of an inning. Each gave up 2 ERs in a 3 run game, but since the lead was intact when they left, they got HLDs. That's 4 ERs in 2/3 IP, but 2 HLDs. I got a HLD one time this year when my RP also picked up a loss.

But it adds a new wrinkle to the game. I have played with that category for the last 6 yrs in my keeper league, and I like it.

-----------

SF almost made it a save situation. At least Cox didn't burn Gonzalez and make him unavailable tomorrow...

I am stuck with the Reyes or Gonzalez dilemma again. If I am able to get Hanrahan via waivers, I won't have this decision anymore. Missing Reyes' vulture W means I am tied in wins. Every category is so smurfin' tight.

I picked up Thames (best 1b eligible hitter FA) last night with the intention to spot start against garbage G Olson for D Lee, who I am very sick of. Then I changed my mind and started him for Mclouth instead. This move worked out kind of, BUT, I totally neglected Lind, who has a huge game while Thames has a forgettable 1 for 5, even though he did line out twice according to the play by play. Lind's 4 RBI equals the output of my starting lineup combined. I continue to over-estimate Beckett as a top SP this year.

I started Lind for 2 weeks, he gave me a .260ish BA, 0 HR and 5 lousy RBI in almost 60 ABs, so he's been sitting for the last week, in which he has 3 homers. Sonnavabench!

At least benching M Gonz for Reyes worked, as I got a cheap HLD, which makes up for the HLD lost when COL scored in the 8th to take a HLD away from Bucholtz.

Now if Hamels can beat the lowly Pads, I would count this as a moderately successful day for my team. At least Mclouth didn't go 8 for 5 with 29 RBI like he usually does from the bench.

Today I was gonna start Byrd for Mclouth, but chickened out before game time and made the switch back. I just hope Byrd doesn't drive in 3 today.
