Can anyone recommend a suitable roster size and amt of keepers for a 12-team, 5x5 roto, 3-year keeper league?

We've been doing 5 keepers for each of 10 teams but feel that's not enough. Teams that fall into the bottom half after half a season want to "build" for the next season and acquire elite keepers, but when only 5 on each squad are kept, everyone ends up with at least that many great players anyway. What usually happens is all 10 teams are trying to unload with a 2 for 1 deal a few weeks before the draft. Is 10 keepers for 12 teams too much? People are worried that 120 guys will be locked up after year one, leaving little room for improvement after one disappointing year (which I think is a bit shortsighted). Thoughts?

Also, we'd like to expand on the number of roster spots. We've been doing 22 starting positions, 3 bench and 1 DL, which I feel is pretty standard, but are looking to incorporate a wider scope of talent. The FA pool is usually loaded. Again, some are worried that the year one draft will be weighted too heavily.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Gotta get the settings crap ironed out before we move anywhere else, really.

If 5 is too small, and 10 is too big, try 7 Keepers for each team. There's no exact way to do this. It's whatever you and your leaguemates agree to. For a mixed league, 10 keepers is really fine. There's plenty of new talent coming in at all times, but in a 3 year keeper I could see the bottom teams getting frustrated that their team gets good right when they lose guys. A roster of 22 also seems fine, it's going to be deeper this year now that you have two extra teams.
