An outing in which a starting pitcher is plagued by errors and unearned runs, which lead to uneven ratios.

The errors don't hurt the ERA but they definitely hurt the WHIP looking at a 6 inning, 1.50 ERA, 2.50 WHIP

Nice. Can also be used as a verb - I went with Ponson for a spot start and he got WHIPped!

How about "Tied to the WHIPing post" - When a pitcher posts (get it?) an outing which is plagued by errors and unearned runs - leading to uneven ratios.

"Man! Ponson tied me to the WHIPing post last night. 1.50 ERA but 2.50 WHIP! Why is Jeter still playing shortstop?"

Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
