Danks

Postby cygar13 » Thu Apr 15, 2010 6:28 am

I know you didn't predict Danks to be good this year, but the guy is legit. He came in the league at a very young age. He's had a lot of success too while still being a young starting pitcher. He had some bad games last year, but he also had several strong starts. The Sox staff is loaded. Are you still down on him because you predicted him to be bad or because of sour grapes? I know its early but its ok to eat crow sometimes.

Everyone knows that two starts can make the world go round. Baseball is the ultimate game of patience, his numbers will return to the expected levels in time.

By return to their "expected" levels, do you mean the 3.32 ERA he had in 2008, or the 3.77 ERA he had in 2009. I know both of those numbers are TERRIBLE pitching in a hitter's park, but please enlighten me how Danks is a bad pitcher. Is it because he is old? (just turned 25). Please tell me what the expected levels are so I can be patient.

I was never claiming that he was going to post a 5.00 ERA in 2010 but let's not get our panties all wet over a guy like Danks. He's not a high strikeout guy and has had an xFIP at or above 4 the past two seasons. Do I want to pay a premium price for this type of production? Most likely not.

Another example of a better player for the ChiSox than for your fantasy squad,

Not to mention when Freddy Garcia pinches himself and wakes up and the new and not so improved Peavy hardly makes for a "Loaded" staff...but hey who knows

My bad guys. I didn't realize that your league counted xFIP as a category.

In that regards, Danks is a complete loser. Please jump all over Jason Hammel.

Your Danks trolling is pretty hillarious.

Danks 08 - 12-9/3.32/1.23/159
Danks 09 - 13-11/3.77/1.28/149
Grey's 2010 Projections: 12-7/4.15/1.30/155

Makes sense to me.

Solid April for him last year too before a 2 point ERA jump in may. Why not revisit this June 1st?

A league doesn't need to count xFIP for it to be relevant though - it's a great indicator of expected results and success.

I'm not even trying to hate on Danks but since you're propping him up as if he was your son I'm forced to disagree. I'll gladly revisit this every month and we'll see where we stand. At least it gives me a reason to watch this exciting player pitch!

Why are people on here so against Danks?! I LOVE pitchers like Danks in fantasy baseball. I LOVE stacking up on OFFENSE and taking people like DANKS late. (Under rated pitchers) Let all the other dorks reach on better pitchers so they can get 50 more K's and 2-3 more wins. I will take DANKS and MOYLAN LATE!

TELL ME MORE ABOUT xFIP WHILE I DRAFT UTLEY, LONGORIA, HEYWARD, ETC...

I LOVE BEING IN LEAGUES WITH PEOPLE THAT LOOK AT xFIP.
