Broxton's Toe

Postby Frank Rizzo » Mon Jul 13, 2009 11:49 am

I just read a quote from Torre stating the toe problem is something Broxton will need to deal with the rest of the year. Apparently the only thing that can help it is rest. So the question is, how much rest? How many save Ops is Broxton going to lose out to Troncoso now?

Right now Qualls, Franklin, Gregg, Wilson, Street, Sherrill, Aardsma, Capps, Bailey, Francisco, and Soriano are FA's. Are any of these Donkey-corns better choices than Broxton in light of this news?

You need a deeper league if all of those guys are on waivers. I'd take Broxton over any of them though.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

Everyone's got a solid closer, but no one's carrying 2 closers because it's a waste of a roster spot. I agree there are a lot of good FA closers but it does add up if everyone's only using 1.

I'm not too worried about Broxton's toe, at least its not an arm issue like everyone is saying he will inevitably develop.

In your league I would be even less worried if everyone is dumb enough to carry only 1 closer and guys like Franklin are sitting there.

The way our league sets up, it's not dumb to carry just one closer. Closers are only worth saves in our 6 x 6 league that includes Quality Starts. Everyone's carrying a ton of SP's to try and get as many W's, K's, and QS's possible each week when going h2h. We don't have any inning limits so you can roster as many SP's as you wish. It's not dumb, it's just a different strategy that makes sense for how our league is set up.

6x6 means ERA and WHIP are categories right? When everyone is zigging I'd be zagging.

How should I be zagging? It's a Yahoo leage where I can start 4 SP's and one RP at a time. If I have a 2nd closer on my team it's only to fill in for when my #1 closer's team isn't playing.

W's, K's, and QS's are 3 categories that could be strongly effected by having more SP's. ERA and WHIP is 2 categories that won't necessarily be effected by having more SP's. If you do the math it only makes sense to add more pitching.

I don't see a reason to zag here.

Bailey should be SP eligible, JP Howell as well if he's on WA (I assume he is). Active players are worth more than benched ones, even if their contribution is negligible. Adding both would lock in Saves and give you an edge in Ks, ERA and WHIP with a chance to vulture a win here and there. Is having 4 benched hitters really getting you that much?

No and no to Howell and Bailey in Yahoo. Maybe there are others if I decide to go without backups on offense.

Should we Broxton owners start to worry a little more since news is that LA is starting to look hard at quite a few different relievers right now?
