I'm thinking pretty far ahead with this one, but I'm far enough in first that I anticipate making it to the finals. My league is a weekly yahoo custom league that counts R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, K, BB, SB, AVG, and OPS. The semi-finals are Sept. 8-14, and the finals are the Sept. 15-28. I've been looking at the schedules for my starters and noticed that a couple teams will have additional games due to earlier postponements. Specifically, CLE will have 8 games from 8-14, and TB will have 15 games from 15-28.
So my Q is this: does it make sense to pick up a free agent that's on one of the teams with more games and replace him for a starter? For example, I could pick up Ben Francisco and get 8 games out of him, but I would have to bench someone like Wright (5 games, all home) or Hamilton (3 ea @ OAK and SEA, where he has hit poorly so far). I would then flip Francisco for Hinske, and sit Rios (12 games) or Victorino (12 games).
Or should I just go with whomever has better average stats, which would clearly mean not picking up anyone?
Thanks for any thoughts.
I would not mess with what got you there. Of course by the time those dates come around, one of your players might be in a terrible funk or injured so this could be moot.
