Clayton Richard's contract was purchased by the White Sox on Monday and he will start at home against Texas on Tuesday, according to the team's official site.
He was 12-6 with a 2.44 ERA in 19 starts this season for Triple-A Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham. This contradicts a Chicago Tribune report that Nick Masset would take the rotation spot of Jose Contreras (elbow, 15-day DL). Richard is a highly regarded prospect that went 6-0 with a 2.37 ERA in Triple-A.
Richard's minor league #s look nice. (see below)
Naturally, he's not available on Yahoo! because he hasn't pitched in the bigs yet. Kind of like how Gio Gonzalez hasn't pitched in the majors. But GG somehow made his way into the Y! universe. I suspect intelligent design.
He doesn't appear to be a big K guy, but his control looks solid. Maybe like Kevin Slowey, but less prone to giving up home runs. Henceforth the low ERA.
Am I out of line in thinking that Clayton Richard could have more fantasy value this year that Clayton Kershaw?
