I'm in a 5-Keeper League. The league expanded from 10 teams to 12 this offseason and I'm one of the expansion teams. I was able to pick two keepers from a pool of lower tier keepers made available from the 10 original teams to begin this season. At the end of this season I can choose two more from my current roster and then I can choose my 5th at the end of the 2010 season. However if I trade for a keeper now, I'm still allowed to make select two keepers from my current roster at the end of this season.
I'd like to make a trade to bring in another keeper so I can go into next season with a full slate of keeper so I don't have a disadvantage during the draft.
I'm firmly implanted in 5th place right now with no legitimate opportunity to advance in the standings. I'd prefer to finish 7th this year and give myself the best chance to win the league next year than finish 5th and go in to next season with a disadvantage.
So my thought is to trade strong value to a contending team in hopes of getting back a stud keeper. This only makes sense if the value I give up will propel the opposing team into contention for this year's championship.
My current strategy is to keep Rollins and Aaron Hill due to the value they give me in fairly shallow positions. All top tier guys at 2B and SS are already kept.
I'd like to bring in a stud keeper by packaging AGon and Verlander. AGon is expendable because 1B is so deep. It looks like next year's draft will include Youk, Morneau, Carlos Pena, Joey Votto so I can still get value there in the first round.
I'm preparing to offer the following trades to various teams in contention.
Verland and AGon for:
All three of these guys are kept which would mean I'd assume the keeper tag.
Are you on board with keeping Hill and Rollins instead of AGon?
Are you on board with each of the trade offers above?
Hill and Rollins seems fine. I'd trade them for Crawford or Braun.
