Brandon Morrow dropped

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

Brandon Morrow dropped

Postby TheRealTaz » Sat Apr 20, 2013 6:19 pm

I have the #1 claim -- do I claim him?

Current SP staff: Gallardo, Peavy, Medlen, Niese, Bekcett Kuroda, Shelby Miller (plus Skaggs for keepers, Allan Webster for at least a spot start, and Garza on DL).

He definitely couldn't hurt as a flyer. I think he turns it around. But since you are in a keeper league, are there certain prospects who are going to get called up this year that aren't already on teams? Wil Myers, Oscar Tavares, Billy Hamilton, Arenado? They might be worth the waiver claim. Your pitching staff looks all right. Gallardo needs to pick it up and Niese has been a little shaky this month. But he was shaky early in the season last year too, then turned it around and pitched well most of the season.

As you can imagine, all the keeper players you mentioned are owned or accounted for.

Myers, Taveras are stashed. Arenado, Hamilton are on minor league rosters.

How many do you start v. bench? I would add Morrow and drop Beckett, but you may want to bench Morrow until he turns it around.

It's daily so I can typically start anyone when he starts. Currently I have Beckett as the drop. I'd consider Webster, but so far he's got three great innings under his belt so hopefully he sticks around. (Way I see it: Beckett is replaceable. Webster, if he sticks, could be a steal. If he doesn't, so be it.)

I'd drop either Webster or Skaggs for him (and I really don't like Morrow).

But I generally try avoid prospect SP. Obviously, that looks dumb at the moment, but I don't ever want to build around them. I'll let somebody else take their initial success and then deal with the adjustment period that will almost always follow. I'd rather be the 2nd or 3rd guy to own the young stud SP, once they've gotten themselves adjusted (and take the reduced value that results from the adjustment period).

That's just me though. Nothing wrong with tossing a Beckett back instead.
