First year of FBB - Help!

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

First year of FBB - Help!

Postby Blee » Sun Apr 14, 2013 12:05 pm

Hi,
My first year with a fantasy team and it turns out roto is like crack.*

*apparently...

I missed a big chunk of the auction draft and feel like I'm thrashing around a bit trying to sort my team. I'd appreciate any help... I've already spent half my FAAB on an outfield and Pettitte. Waivers are Sunday nights.

Apologies in advance for all the questions...

1. I (foolishly...dunno) traded Posey for Darvish and Holland then lost a WW bid for Doumit. I need a catcher, notable WW people:
Flowers
Saltalamacchia
Jaso
Castilo
Cervelli
That's about it.

2. SP - With 200 start limit, how many SP should I have on my roster?
Zito, Jose Fernandez are available, not much else. Worth picking up both/either for Doolittle/Hernandez?

3. Keep Cahill? I'm starting him vs the Dodgers, but that might just be stupidness...

4. Freese and Herrera are on the waiver wire. There's gonna be a lot of interest. What's a decent bid? Biggest so far was $11 for Parra. Do I need to spend a chunk of FAAB on Freese anyway, or save it for more pick ups as we go? Drop Hicks/Adams.

5. Nava, Hafner (and Schierholtz) are available. Who to drop?

6. Castila, Russell available. Worth nabbing? Again I just don't know who to drop.

Thanks in advance for any help, my head hurts.

1. Castilo

2. Its not about how many but quality. If you can stream pitchers that is a good route to go. Both Zito and Fernandez are with owning and spot starting.

3. I would hang on to Cahill. I think he will be better than this.

4. Leave them.

5. Leave them.

6. Leave them.

Thanks for the response.

With Quentin suspended I need at least one more hitter this week to fill my roster, hence Nava/Hafner, there's not a lot on the wire...

And maybe I'll calm down switching out half my team.... :)

Thanks

Hi,
Do you have DL slots? If so, need to put Texiera and Saunders on DL asap and fill up those slots.

1. Posey for Darvish...not dumb...just maybe unnecessary
Sure...go with Castillo...you need to patrol the wire for any catcher that goes on a tear...I'm assuming that John Buck and Evan Gattis are now owned...keep your eyes on A.J. Ellis and Chris Iannetta for example...there are two prospects who are coming up Mike Zunino and Travis D'Arnaud...I'm thinking Zunino will be coming up before...huge upside on both.
I'm thinking there should be more catchers available in a 12-team 1-catcher league with few utility spots...I could be wrong...it's possible other owners have Gattis and Buck as a stash or in there Utility spots.

2. SP - With 200 start limit, how many SP should I have on my roster? I agree again with previous poster...it's about quality...not quantity...the way Fernandez is pitching he could get you a QS most starts...you could pick up Zito he's pitching well and getting lucky...but everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop (or the bottom to fall out)...
Zito, Jose Fernandez...I haven't been in this time of league before so can't comment really on how much...I'd pay more for Fernandez and wouldn't may much for Zito...I would consider dropping Hicks and Gregerson in that order

3. Keep Cahill...yes...pitching well today (perhaps mixed with some luck)...I'd keep him...

4. I'd put a few bucks in for Herrerra...not sure how much...maybe $3 not more than $5?...he will handcuff Holland and still provide you with value all year...drop Doolittle...keep Mike Adams...he handcuffs (backs up in case of injury or demotion) Papelbon

5. Not worth adding at this time.

6. Wouldn't add at this time.

Additional note...see if you can add Tony Cingrani...he will be replacing Cueto in the Reds rotations most likely...if you can get him for say $1, then I would drop any mentioned above, or Andy Pettitte...Cingrani has upside while Pettitte has injury risks (among other things)

Good luck

Thanks for that, it's really useful.

Posey for Darvis/Holland was because my pitching just seemed so weak, especially Ks. Not sure if I got decent value though, I guess time will tell. I think Darvish will be top 10 by the year's end. I hope...

There's one DL slot, with Teixeira on it atm.

No good catchers around at all, Gattis and Buck are long gone sadly. I like Lucroy, waiting till he comes up...

I need one extra hitter to fill my roster next week with Quentin out, bid $1 for Hafner, figure he might be more likely to keep hitting well than Nava. OF is going to be a pain all year I think.

Thanks for the tip on Cingrani, I've put $1 in for him. I was going to drop D Hernandez instead of Gregerson, keep Street's handcuff for when he inevitably breaks. Hernandez is helping my ratios though, you think he's the better keep?

Thanks, and good luck for the season
