Punting 3 of 6 pitching stat strategy report

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

Week one report:

So I took the loss this week, but not because of they way I am playing:

I ran into a few very hot bats which combined with my underperforming offense resulted in a loss...... However despite my opponent having the Yu Darvish show on his team I did in fact comfortably win my planned WHIP ERA and SAVES.
Most surprising is that my relievers were able to absorb the three runs given up by FUJIKAWA, a blown save by Boggs, and a run by Benoit. So giving up 5 runs in all I still comfortably won ERA

His staff was:
Yu Darvish
Kris Medlen
Jeff Samardzija
Addison Reed
Marco Estrada
Tommy Milone
Tommy Hanson
Drew Smyly

The final score for our pitching lines was:
As expected he won
WINS (6-0)
Ks (70-15)
QS (4-0)

And I won
ERA (2.51. - 3.98)
SAVES (5-3)
WHIP (0.91 - 1.17)

He spent $81 dollars on his pitching And I spent $31.
Going into yesterday I actually had a comfortable 8-3 lead, but butler, middlebrooks, upton ended up being too much to absorb and I lost the week 7-4.

Even though I lost I actually came out of the week slightly optimistic that this might actually work.

Moves I made this week:
Dropped Castro for Benoit
Dropped CASHNER for Jim Henderson
Moved Hart to the DL and picked up Franklyn Gutierrez

current dilemma.. surprising enough someone dropped A-Rod, and Jose Veras, my though is grab A-Rod and shift him into my long term DL slot (we get two) but who do I drop?

I'm thinking I drop David Hernandez, David Robertson, or Franklyn Gutierrez. What do you guys think.

Gutierez. You aren't going to win offense every week in h2h. Hopefully it doesn't just you in the playoffs. A balance can help offset bad luck.

I did punt saves in a 6x6 dynasty because we add holds and I can try for 11-1 every week without over paying for closers. I went 6-6 this week to middlebrooks Sunday... Was leading 9-1 saturday

because of the strategy I have to win offense every week, I'm not using starters. thats the experiment.

Ha it's nearly impossible, that's why i don't see higher than 5/6th place for my team.

I'm doing this because every season I've wondered what would happen if I totally punted starting pitching in an auction draft format.
By focusing on just relievers could I in Essenes split the pitching categories most week and the spend the extra $50 or so on better hitters that should be solid enough to win the week.

So far I'm 0-1 because my hitting failed to produce, but my 5 relievers were successful in easily splitting the pitching stats.

I think that can work with a few $1 sp with good ratios to help protect blow ups and add a few wins to the mix

Here comes the first big meltdown.
After Boggs 1 out 6 run outting I start today with a very robust 162 era.... That's not a typo 162.00. ERA.
So if I can somehow absorb this hit and the rest of my RPs still do well and I still split the ERA then I will actually start to think winning this way is possible.... I must however point out that I freely admit how unlikely it would be.

I do think this can work, although its probably a better strategy in roto.
Also, I would have tried to buy Kimbrel and Rivera and Papelbon etc. Boggs, Romo, etc. seem to limit your ability to win ERA and WHIP with any consistency. Still, its a strategy I've considered, and in a league without IP minimums, I think it can work.
I'll be interested in seeing how it plays out (I suggest you start a new thread with each weekly post, lest this one get 50 pages long and tough to follow.)

Jacob, that's a great point. I will start a new thread each week.

As far as spending on the high end closers it was initially part of the plan, but during the draft of the 16 teams only two were showing any interest in closers so as is ended up removing me for the equation 4 of 15 teams have 2 closers, most have one set up mid relief guy, but most really drafted starters that had dual eligibility so I decided I would rather try and sweep the set up great ration guys and then be very active on the wire for potential closers.

I now have
Romo
Henderson
Boggs
Santos
Robertson
Fukjikawa
Benoit
Pestano

I can start 5, I clearly picked the wrong one in Boggs this week, but can bench him with ease till he turns it around.
