1st year Keeper draft. Please help.

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

1st year Keeper draft. Please help.

Postby Buddah Lovaz » Sun Feb 24, 2013 7:00 am

This is a 16 team, H2H, 6x6 (OBP, Holds)
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, UT, UT
SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, P
Bn *7
We will keep 15 players

There are only a few young RFers I am targeting so I think I want either Stanton, Heyward, Bruce as a 1st or 2nd round pick.
Possibly another OFer if I can. McCutchen, Jones as the other 1st/2nd rounder.
3rd round I'm targeting Bumgarner.
4th a 1B. There should be a few options. Rizzo, Hosmer, Freeman.
5th I'm targeting Matt Moore, Sale, or Latos
6th another SP. Gallardo or someone around 26-28 years old)
7th Machado with a backup plan of Moustakas/Middlebrooks.
8th Matt Harvey.
9th a young OFer Myers/Tavares. Backup plan of Eaton, Reddick.
10 Rutledge
11 Gyorko
12 Frazier

Are these reasonable expectation? Is there someone on this list I should pass over? Anyone else in the top 12 rounds you think I should target?

And finally... Am I going too young?

Thanks. I draft in an hour.

I'm picking 4th. I'm still looking at Stanton or the Dread Pirate. Thoughts? Anyone out there is razzball land?

I like Dread Pirate, with his 5-cat stuff, but I think you have to go Giancarlo. 23 years old, 40-homer power? Yes please. But then again, I tend to skew young in keepers, too. I do like your general plan, though I'd be less tied with position early on and just go for value.

If you can keep 15 with no escalations or other costs, then do not worry about drafting too many young players.

So here's how it turned out. (settings in the 1st post)

C Empty
1B Rizzo
2B Bonifacio
SS Rutledge
3B Moustakas
LF Parra
CF A.Jones
RF Stanton
Ut Hosmer
Ut Eaton
Bn Gyorko (I'm hoping to play him at 2B)
Bn Grandal (eventually my catcher)

SP Bumgarner, Moore, Kennedy, Harvey, Minor, Hughes, Cashner
RP Axford, K.Jansen, David Hernandez, Cook, Parnell

DL D.Hudson

As is I have 2 openings.
I need a catcher for the first 1/.3 of the year and my best options are Castro-Hou or Brantly-Mia. Who do you like?
Top LF available are Venable, S.Smith, McLouth
Top prospects available are Hak-Ju Lee, Yelich, Aaron Hicks, Zunino, Puig

What do you think of my team?

In deep leagues the best thing you can do is make sure you have everyday players at every position... You don't have that, and I don't love wasting a bench spot on a catcher either... Your pitching is better than it needs to be in this deep of a league which has hurt your hitting... Grab Brantly and Venable for now, but hopefully someone better will show up for LF...

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

I feel special. I got a response from the mustachioed man himself.

I'm trying to trade for Frazier to fill my LF void. It's gonna take more than Hughes unfortunately esp now that he's hurt.

Do you think I should drop Grandal and just wait till he gets back? If someone picks him up then whateva.

I'm looking to unload Ian Kennedy. I'm not sure why I drafted him except I saw very little around that pick that interested me. Machado was off the board and the guy basically wants Stanton for him. Or Matt Moore plus Moustakas. No chance i do either.

I used 'neverthewho' in a sentence the other day and didn't even get questioned. I think it's catching on.
