Yahoo vs. Grey's Rankings -- bargains abound!

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

Yahoo vs. Grey's Rankings -- bargains abound!

Postby Dingbat » Mon Feb 11, 2013 3:23 pm

Yahoo just posted its default rankings, so I'm looking forward to the post looking at values that can be gained by comparing Grey's rankings to Yahoo's. In the meantime, I just completed a mock draft at Yahoo to see what kind of team I could get with Grey's rankings. It was a 10-team mock with Yahoo's default settings (C/1B/2B/3B/SS/OF/OF/OF/UT/UT/SP/SP/RP/RP/P/P/P/P/BN/BN/BN/BN/BN), and I had the 4th pick. In the list below, I've provided both Grey's ranking of each player and the pick where I grabbed him -- as you can see, with the exception of RPs, pretty much every player was available several picks later than Grey had them ranked. I think my offense is pretty stacked, but possibly weak on SBs. Compared to Yahoo, Grey undervalues pitchers, but I'm still comfortable with the staff I drafted. I ended up with a lot of low-WHIP guys and not a lot of high-K guys, but if I'd been more than half paying attention I could've prevented that from happening.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

And another one! Picked 3rd this time in a 12-team league. Not as insane a team this time, but still pretty solid. Both times I grabbed OFs with my first three picks, and both times I think it worked pretty well. Common elements so far: Goldschmidt, J. Upton, Ike Davis, and Todd Frazier are all easy to get below Grey's rankings. On the pitching side, there's a lot more variability, but Jon Niese and Hyun-Jin Ryu both seem to stick around for a while.

C: Salvador Pérez (110, 118)
1B: Paul Goldschmidt (19, 46)
2B: Danny Espinosa (90, 147)
3B: Aramis Ramirez (67, 75)
SS: Ian Desmond (63, 70)
OF: Ryan Braun (2, 3)
OF: Justin Upton (10, 22)
OF: Adam Jones (13, 27)
UT: Ike Davis (60, 99)
UT: Todd Frazier (103, 190)
BN: Emilio Bonifacio (116, 238)
BN: Starling Marte (152, 262)

SP: Zack Greinke (42, 51)
SP: Jake Peavy (89, 94)
RP: Mariano Rivera (95, 123
RP: Tom Wilhelmsen (135, 166)
P: Jonathon Niese (112, 142)
P: Homer Bailey (140, 171
P: Casey Janssen (176, 195)
P: Joaquin Benoit (306, 214)
BN: Hyun-Jin Ryu (111, 177)
BN: Mike Fiers (215, 262)

Yeah, Ryu seems to be someone Yahoo dropped the ball on. He is ranked 317. I'm not sure where to take him but 177 seems like it might be about right.

And another Yahoo mock is in! Picked 9th this time and used the War Room to make sure I wasn't getting unbalanced in any categories. I also tried to grab different guys than I've targeted in the past, at least on offense. I always seem to end up with some of the same pitchers, though.

Again, I got almost every player later than Grey has them ranked. Yahoo or Rotowire or whoever is responsible for Yahoo's autodraft rankings haven't disagreed with Grey all that much in the past, but they do this year, so it's a lot easier to get a razzball-approved team in this format this year than it has been in previous years.

C: Matt Wieters (91, 105)
1B: Albert Pujols (6, 9)
2B: Josh Rutledge (100, 160)

SS: Starlin Castro (32, 40)
OF: Adam Jones (13, 33)
OF: Shin-Soo Choo (35, 57)
OF: Alex Gordon (72, 88)
Ut: Norichika Aoki (130, 129)
Ut: Drew Stubbs (282?, 208)
BN: Starling Marte (151, 232)
BN: Mike Olt (205, 273)

SP: Max Scherzer (56, 64)
SP: Jordan Zimmermann (63, 81)
RP: Joe Nathan (132, 136)
RP: Sergio Romo (133, 153)
P: Jeff Samardzija (99, 112)
P: Homer Bailey (140, 177)
P: Glen Perkins (174, 184)
P: Phil Hughes (141, 201)
