Should I be more concerned with the difference between a keeper contract value and what I would expect their auction value to be, or the diff between the contract price and his projected end of season value?

Contract vs probable auction price.

You should try and keep guys who are cheaper than what they would go for at auction. No real sense in keeping a guy who will cost you the same whether you keep him or get him at auction.

The auction is where you try and get a guy who will go cheaper than his end of season value.
