I've been sick of seeing the "drop Jesus Montero?" posts, but as a Jesus owner, I actually looked at his stats, and he's been downright awful. He has an astounding 1 RBI in June, coming on a solo homer. Also, only 2 walks. For those of us in H2H leagues, his complete lack of anything this entire month is killer. Lucroy was my guy until he went down, and my record has reflected the change in catchers.

12 Team, H2H, (Runs, RBI, HR, SB, K's, AVG)

Anybody think any of these dudes is an upgrade?

-Salty
-Arencibia
-Salvy Perez
-R. Martin
-Soto
-Doumit
-hell, Pudge?

non-keeper leauge...seems like you have a lot of value on the wire in terms of catcher...I'd go with Salty for power...Perez for avg...though he does have some pop...hit an HR tonight...

...I don't think anyone will be in a hurry to pick him up...in a non-keeper especially...you can just keep an eye on him...what's the worse that can happen?...in a redraft league...you need to take some chances sometimes and go with the hot hand...especially when you have some depth on the wire...I'd take a chance on Perez...he's done well out of the gate (since his return from injury)... ...Jesus won't hit too many HRs anyway as he plays half his games in a big park

...the one thing going for Jesus is that he gets more ABs than regular catchers because he's normally the DH...he does seem to hit better when he's playing (as a catcher) though...his defense is just not there though...

...if I were the Mariners I'd give him a few more games than they have been, behind the plate...they aren't going to win anything this year anyway

Great insight. The increased ABs (as a DH) and lessened wear-and-tear made him so appealing, but he's been so dreadful that none of that matters if he isn't hitting.

You're right about getting him behind the plate more. The M's seem to value him as a catcher, but he's barely starting there. Rotoworld: "He's hitting just .203 with two homers in 143 at-bats as a DH this year, compared to .322 with six homers in 118 at-bats as a catcher. "

I'm (perhaps overly) concerned about Salvy P's playing time (Royals seem to be resting him every two games), so I picked up Salty for now. But we've got a 1 Catcher league, so there's depth if I want to come back to him.

sounds like a good move...I would love to drop Jesus myself...but in a keeper I'll have to wait a little longer and/or try to trade him at least...

...the Royals don't want him hurt again any time soon, so they are easing Perez into things...having a knee injury makes playing catcher every day...or most days...raise a greater cause for concern...

...but in a 1-catcher rostered league...you should always have value on the wire...I'm assuming 1-catcher...good luck
