Is now the time to pick up Phil Hughes?

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

Is now the time to pick up Phil Hughes?

Postby B.J. » Fri Apr 24, 2009 12:30 pm

With the report from the NY Post that CMW is going to the DL and Hughes is the likely replacement, is it time to pick up Hughes and hope he lights the world on fire. His numbers at AAA have been impressive thus far and if he continues that success with the big club they are sure to find a spot for him somehow.

I'm not sure I'd drop any of those pitchers for Hughes before his 1st start.

^^Agree, not sure you have anyone to drop.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

While I agree to an extent, I think the upside of Hughes is much more significant than with a guy like E-Jax.

In a ten team league, you have more of a cushion to wait on Hughes, but if you really want to swap Jackson for Hughes I can see it and won't stand in your way.

Just a bit of back story regarding my league, we all live in CT roughly an hour from the Stadium, the whole league consists of Sox, Yanks and Mets fans and there is no way I get Hughes if I wait past today. Am I 100% sure Wang gets DL'ed? No, but it looks very likely.

Think I read somewhere on the site (can't find it now) that Derek Holland is preferable to Hughes at this point? In my 13-team league, is Hughes worth grabbing at the expense of any of my pitchers? (I've got a waiver request pending that would drop Brandon Wood for Maybin, if that falls through I'll probably drop Wood for Hughes)

SP: Gallardo, Wainwright, Bedard, Jobacum, Chris Young, Weaver, Holland

Drop Wood for Hughes, none of those pitchers though.
