Lineup check - looking for opinions

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

Lineup check - looking for opinions

Postby Enrique » Thu Mar 29, 2012 12:42 pm

Grey or anyone else: My 16-team mixed, 6x5 non-keeper roto league is below. I feel pretty good overall, but am looking for some general roster help.

I'm a little worried about BA, with Bruce and Stubbs in the OF, and with position flexibility in case someone misses few days (usually I like a decent utility INF with 2B/SS eligibility on the team but the likes available are Tyler Greene, Macier Izturis, Robert Andino, et al, though Furcal is available as a backup SS). I hope Doumit'll be OK until Jesus Montero gets C eligibility. Until then, I have more UTIL players than I can use but the idea is really to bench Gamel to see if he starts to hit. I've got one more SP than I need, and my RP gang looks shaky to me (though having four sort-of closers in a 16-team league ain't bad).

Thoughts on the above concerns? Anything else I should be worried about? Areas where I should look to make a move?

Here's the roster:

C Ryan Doumit
1B Miguel Cabrera
2B Aaron Hill
1B/2B/OF Howie Kendrick
3B David Wright
SS Ian Desmond
OF Jay Bruce, Drew Stubbs, Peter Bourjos, Colby Rasmus
UTL Jesus Montero, MatGamel
SP Madison Bumgarner, Gio Gonzales, Anibel Sanchez, Trevor Cahill, Jair Jurjens, Erik Bedard
RP Carlos Marmol, Frank Francisco, Jim Johnson, Vinnie Pestano
DL Brian Roberts

Thanks everyone!

I would want an outfielder. Your 3 and 4 are question marks. Your pitching is good. Desmond might not play all year either. Maybe hill and desmond can get you a better SS to a team weak at 2nd?

I've played in leagues where I didn't even roster a catcher for half the year then added whoever was hot when I needed. I see no reason why you should roster both Doumit and Montero. You need a SS in a bad way. I owned Ian Desmond last year and he was my main SS and it sucked.

Thanks, Studmuffin and Bourne (Bourne: I'm a Tigers' fan as well).

I recognize that OF depth and SS are potential question marks. I figure that if Bourjos and Rasmus fall flat, I can use Howie Kenrick in the OF if Aaron Hill plays OK. And the options at SS are thin on waivers (Furcal, Scutaro, Tyler Greene). Looking at league dynamics I might be able to make a bid for Zach Cozart or maybe Bonifacio, who'd be nice to have because of position flexibility but I'd have to give up Desmond plus something to get him. But is Desmond really that bad? In a 16-team league you can't have a top 10 player at every position, and if you're going to be weak-ish somewhere it seems like SS isn't a bad option.

Do I have enough speed? Stubbs stole 40 bases last year, but the only other guys with more than 20 were Hill, Bourjos, and Desmond, though I guess Wright is a candidate for that as well.

As for catcher, I can't play Montero there yet ... so on this team Doumit is just holding the place until Montero gets C eligibility.

Many thanks!

You can't have a top 5 player at every position, but why not top 10? :) Steals can be added later when you have power locked up. There are always MI and OF sagnof available on waivers. Or some minor league prospect who comes up with some speed and no restrictions.
