Even though it makes me want to take a shower for visiting the STL Cardinals website, I noticed that they had an interesting posting about Skip Schumaker getting the early season nod from LaRussa and the Cardinals as their everyday Second Baseman.
http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/news/a ... p&c_id=stlIt looks like his defense is good enough for the Cardinals to try him there. This does potentially two fantasy baseball relevant things...
1) Schumaker gets upgraded to Polanco yawnstipating status at 2B, and 2) A spot is opened up for either Colby Rasmus or worse, Chris Duncan in the OF. Quote:
The transition and stress that has accompanied it does not seem to have affected Schumaker at the plate, however. He said he again worked on his hitting and swing with Mark McGwire during the offseason and credits McGwire for much of his success.
"Pretty much I owe my stroke to him," Schumaker said. "He's taught me everything as far as my approach, where my hands should be. Tony mentioned it to me a few years ago that he thought it would be a good idea for me to improve myself by going and getting some work with Mark, and I don't think I would be in the big leagues and be successful without him. I know he was bigger and stronger than a lot of guys, especially me, but hitting's hitting."
Here are some ideas for a Razzball entry title on this subject:
