My first-ever keepers post. Pretty exciting...

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

My first-ever keepers post. Pretty exciting...

Postby Steve » Sat Mar 07, 2009 2:11 am

OK - so there's this crazy-ass bunch of guys at the bottom of some place called Missouri who have let me into their auction keeper-thingy.

They've said I can either keep up to 6 from the team I've inherited (listed below), or pick three from whoever's left over once everyone else has declared their keepers. That happens on draft day, but there's this loony called Hippo or something-or-other who says I'll get all this info in plenty of time.

I think the overall cap is $300. I see Prince, Granderson, Tulo and the Flyin' Hawaiian as possible keeper material, but beyond that I don't have a clue.

Hippo has been kind enough to say he will be dropping Utley at $47 - he has quite a good pitching staff apparently.

What to do?

Bay , J $27
Beltre, A $20
Burrell, P $9
Carmona, F $10
Cook, A $5
Damon, J $5
Fielder, P $33
Giambi, J $6
Granderson, C $10
Griffey Jr, K $6
Hudson, O $8
Johnson, K $10
Lee, D $35
Lilly, T $6
Marmol, C $5
Penny, B $11
Polanco, P $15
Rivera, M $19
Sheets, B $20
Smith, G $5
Soto, G $17
Thome, J $25
Torres, S $5
Tulowitzke, T $10
Victorino, S $12
Young, M $29
Zito, B $10

If the other teams cough up multiple worthwhile guys, then maybe switch out one of the above. But Utley for $47 is not a keeper. He's way too expensive. Probably why Hippo's chucking him back. I'd be wary of any of the guys that people are chucking back, there is a reason they are not keeping them. BTW, this keeper team is pretty bad. You're going to have to draft well.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

No illusions here. That team is nothing special. Hippo and the boys did the job on that guy pretty good.
I'll double check but I don't think I can supplement any keepers from that team with throwbacks - think it's an either/or situation.
The draft? It's only an auction when I'm on the other side of the world. Should be a snap...

Yeah, your best bet is less is more. Take fewer keepers so you can get more guys at the auction.

I like the five I said above, but I'm saying don't take an expensive guy from another team just because they're throwing him back.

Hey no fair, Razzball's my advice column.

Yeah, that team was last place for a reason. The guy whined halfway through that he only plays H2H. Sucks when somebody quits that early and he has tradeable pieces like Vic and Grandy.

Gotcha. Thought you meant maybe take less than the five you highlighted.

There is work to be done, to be sure.
