In my league I can keep two players, either at the round they were drafted at last year, or as 10th round picks for free agents . My drafted options are: Bay 7th, Chris Davis 10th (FA), Shields 12th, Connor Jackson 20th. Meaning if I choose Shields to protect, he is my 12th round pick this year.

I can also trade picks for someone like Volquez 10th(FA), Alexei Ramirez 10th (FA), Kemp 11th, Victorino 11th, S Drew 16th, Dye 16th, Doumit 18th, Broxton 23rd or maybe one or two others. But I’d have to lose some draft position to acquire those guys. Example, last year I traded down from the 9th round to the 13th round to keep Rios at the 8th round, and from 14 to 18 to keep Kinsler at 13. Kinsler obviously worked out and I guess Rios was still a value in the 8th.

So if I wanted Kemp, I'd probably have to trade my 10th round pick for Kemp and his 14th round pick. Meaning I'd have a pick in the 9th round, nothing in the 10th, Kemp as my 11th, then pick again in the 12th.

So my question(s) is(are) should I keep Sheilds, and Bay or Davis or should I make a move for somebody else. Love to have your input on the subject….

What would you lose if you traded for Alexei and/or Kemp?

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

The only thing I'd lose is the draft pick traded away, er, traded down. So to get Kemp/Ramirez/whomever, I'd be trading my 10th rounder for a 14th rounder, or something like that.

Okay, so if those guys are possibilities, what would it take to trade for them? Do you have the pieces needed?

The owner that has Kemp traded Kinsler to me last year. That trade was a four round swap. So I imagine it would be the same. Either:
Kemp plus his 14/16 for my 10/12 (I'd start with 12 for 16 and see if he bit, but would certainly be willing to go 10 for 14)

Ramirez plus his 13/15 for my 9/11

I can't get both cause I'm sure he's keeping Soto (14th) plus Kemp or Ramirez.

I've also reached out to the owner who had Lincecum in the 9th, but he'd be completely insane not to keep him. He has Bruce at 19 and Broxton at 23...

It may also be worth noting this is a head to head league for 5x5 categories (R, RBI, HR, SB, OBP + W, K, S, ERA, WHIP)

I like Bruce a lot in the 19th, too.

Shields in the 12th is a slam dunk, IMO. So that leaves you with one more. The guy who has Lincecum in 9th and Bruce in 19th will probably throw Broxton in 23rd back, then (you can all keep only two, right?). I like Broxton in 23rd better than either Davis in 10th or Bay in 7th. Drew in the 16th is also not bad, at all.

Important question, though...can you keep players only once, or indefinitely?

Yes, I can keep up to two. I don't have to keep anyone, but that's just silly.

I also just found out I'm drafting in the 9 slot out of 10. So I won't get Hanley or Reyes, so now I'm considering Drew...

This is a once and done deal. It's a nice perk for drafting well and still keeps the draft fresh...

I'm very high on Shields for '09, but I can probably get him in the 8th round, so the keeper value isn't there like it is for the other guys....
