Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

Keepers - Pick 8

Postby youngid » Thu Aug 28, 2008 7:13 pm

$260 to spend in the auction, up to 8 major league keepers allowed. I blew up my team right before the deadline, traded for every good keeper I could get my hands on, and this is what I'm left with. Prices listed are for next season.

$27 Lance Berkman
$18 Matt Kemp
$13 Dan Uggla
$7 Carlos Gomez
$6 Mike Napoli
$5 Chris Davis
$5 Alexei Ramirez
$5 Justin Duchscherer
$5 Shaun Marcum
$5 Scott Baker

Context: This season, top 5 guys went for around $45, 25 guys went for more than $27. Ted Lilly went for $9.

I expect there will be some inflation next year, due to the number of cheap keepers out there. So which 8 would you pick??

The last keeper decision would be game time decision depending on the lastest news about them. If I had to choose right now, I would go Marcum.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

i'd pick marcum over duke too

duchscherer is just too injury prone and you'd be happy that he produce another season with anything close to 3 ERA and half the innings he pitched this year :P

I was actually leaning towards keeping both Marcum and Duke, at the expense of Carlos Gomez. The guy's hitting .253/.290/.344

You guys think he's going to provide more value than $5 Duke? He's a good prospect, but there's still a chance he doesn't start next year, twins go with Cuddyer/Span/Kubel/D.Young in the outfield.

I don't think it's a strong move to take a chance on two guys that have a propensity for wearing down/injuries respectively. Duchscherer hasn't gotten through a full season in two years w/out injury. Marcum wore down last year/did the same this year.

Gomez will have another season under his belt and he can steal 30 blind and has power. He could go 15/45 next year. And, if you're a reader of the site you know, I'm not even a Gomez fan. Anyway, that's my case for Gomez over one of those pitchers.

I thought I was all set when Marcum got hurt, but now I'm thinking about keeping Mike Napoli. He hit 20 homers in 227 ABs this year, which is ridiculous. So if I keep him, do I drop Gomez? Duchscherer? Neither?

What did catchers like Bengie Molina go for last year?

Molina and Kenji Johjima went for $9 last year, more than Pudge ($8) and less than Posada ($13). McCann and Mauer went for $17, V.Mart for $27

It's real tough. When do you have to decide by? Can you wait until spring training?

I can wait until the middle of spring training next year. I can also try to make a trade, which is probably what I'm going to do, try to 2 for 1(pizza deal) somebody.
