15 keepers, four cups

Who to start, who to bench. Grab that WW guy? Low priced rookie or high priced stud?

15 keepers, four cups

Postby ThirdandKing » Mon Feb 09, 2009 9:38 pm

So I'm in a 12 team league that's 7x7 (last year the extras were 2B, OBP for hitters + HR allowed, K/9 for pitchers, but they sometimes change; I haven't heard yet). I get to keep four of the following without regard to what round I first got them. Essentially, they're my first four rounds of picks. I like to zig to pitching when everyone zags to offense, and think I need to keep Johan & Peavy together. I rode them pretty far last year, but... I dunno, man, I never felt comfortable with them. Peavy missed that month, some of his peripherals declined sightly, Johan's peripherals continued to decline slightly (it didn't help that HR allowed was a category, that's for sure). Now Peavy's maybe leaving Petco, no one knows how Citi Field will play....

Am I just being paranoid and talking myself out of holding onto the top 1-2 punch in the game?

Anyway, I get to keep four. Tough, right? I could even go all-pitching or all-bats and still have a kickass quartet. I won't, of course. But I could.

SPs: Johan, Peavy, Cain, Grienke, Liriano, Gallardo, Maine
RP: Nathan
Bats: Berkman, Hamilton, AGonzalez, ARamirez, BRoberts, Soto, Rios

Gracias.

I think you should keep Johan, Peavy, Hamilton and Berkman.

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.

Yeah? Hamilton vs Aramis Ramirez and Berkman vs Adrian Gonzalez were the other debates I was really having. Wow, the Rangers, Astros, Padres, and On-to-the-Next-Hundred-Years-Cubs. Proud set of franchises there, and with high hopes for 2009, too.

Hamilton and Aramis is a fair debate, but Hamilton, while overrated in single year drafts is better than Aramis in a keeper. Hamilton is a best for 30 HRs and 10 steals. Aramis couldn't steal ten bags if you gave him a 30 feet lead off first. They're close in numbers, but Hamilton has way more upside. Berkman and Adrian aren't that close when you chuck in some steals and a better average for Berkman.
