I was thinking the other day that Jason Heyward is so young that he doesn’t remember George Bush, Sr. being president. I mean, he’s heard of him (I think), but he was only 3-years-old when he left office. Amongst other things, Heyward missed John Travolta’s career downturn with talking babies, Sean Penn protecting Madonna, Timothy Dalton playing Bond and Billy Crystal as a leading man. Thinking about this really depressed me. I wish I missed all that crap too! This year, Heyward’s value came in around Abreu, Torii Hunter and Vernon Wells. Passing ships in the night because this is the last time Heyward’s going to be valued anywhere near those guys. Out with the old, something borrowed something blue, the early bird gets 20% off on the entrees on the left side of the menu, or whatever cliché you have that fits. So, let’s look at some of the reasons Jason Heyward is a 2011 fantasy baseball keeper.
.394 OBP. That’s all you need to know about Jason Heyward and his 2010 season. That’s all you need going forward into 2011 fantasy baseball. A 20-year-old (now 21) that puts up that elite of a OBP? Hay-zeus, that’s pretty. From 1901 to 2010, Mel Ott in 1928 is the only player to have a higher OBP (.397) at age 20 or younger. And Heyward is currently tied with Mickey Mantle (in OBP, not in morning cocktails). Seriously. He has the 8th most homers for a 20-year-old. Above him, Frank Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Ken Griffey, Vada Pinson, Mike Stanton, A-Rod and Willie Mays. For real. Right now, he has 10 steals. His Speed Score is 4.6, but was mid- to high 6′s in the minors, so there’s room for growth with the steals. Power-wise, he has 18 homers and I could see that easily moving up to 25 homers next year. The average will stay in check. Anywhere from .270 to .310. So let’s give him .290. That puts him around 90/25/90/.290/12. That’s 2010 Hunter Pence, otherwise known as the 12th best fantasy outfielder for 2010. Next year, Heyward will be a top 15 outfielder and the year after top 10. Yes, Jason Heyward is a 2011 fantasy baseball keeper, even if he doesn’t understand Look Who’s Talking references.

Thanks for the pith. Enjoy the off-season.
so you’re saying he’ll go in the 7th-9th rounds like pence? just kiddin’ he’ll be gone by round 4 of every draft next year, a little early i’d say, but he could always trounce your projections and become an elite option in 2011. I doubt I own him next yr.
@CT Old School: Thanks! You too!
@Tony: Yeah, it’ll be hard to draft him next year unless you reach, but for keepers he’s a top choice.
@Grey: ya i’d rather take a bonafide stud there in a nonkeeper than HOPE heyward makes it to that level.
Just depends I guess. I bet he’s a 3rd to 4th rounder in all early mocks/ draft lists. Thats a little early for my blood. I’ll pass on that grass.
@Grey: I love the Torres blurb in the last blog… i don’t have many favorite quotes on facebook, but I guarantee that whole thing will make the list
Grey, in what order would you rank these guys for 2011: Snider, Ike, Pagan, Torres, LoMo (aka LogMor)?
@Tony: It’s way too early, in my opinion too. I think he’ll probably be drafted closer to a 7th rounder, if I had to guess.
@Jo: Thanks!
@Jay: Pagan, Morrison, Snider, Torres…
thoughts on DlR tonight @ STL.
Hey Grey, just wanted to say thanks for all the great advice this summer. This was my first year of fantasy baseball and I loved it. I’m gonna miss waking up each morning and reading the daily notes. Have a good winter!
Hey Grey,
I have you to thank for putting me at the top of all my leagues, and my own twitchy waiver wire finger to blame for falling just short, so…thanks.
BTW, which player would you like to send a big EFF YEW!! to this year? Mine would be Gordon Beckham. EFF YEW, buddy.
@Grey I guess there’s not a lot of questions left to ask. Three days of championship baseball to go. Thanks for a great year and looking forward to January Grey! (If you could only do hockey…Razzpuck?)
“He has the 6th most homers for a 20-year-old. Above him, Frank Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Ken Griffey, Vada Pinson and Willie Mays.”
Mike Stanton, age 20, also has more HR than Heyward.
Grey wouldn’t Heyward be 7th behind Stanton on the homeruns under 20 years old list?
Alex Rodriguez also, right?
@Back to Minors: Start him.
@Nuke LaDouche: Thanks for the kind words!
@El Famous Burrito: I’m more annoyed at the players I missed out on like Bautista.
@J-Kwok: @Shackleford: Stanton’s a centaur. No, you’re right. I blame baseball-reference for feeding me wrong info, unless I read it wrong. Will fix the above.
Can you (eventually) do one of these for Young Krispie? he basically stole Matt Kemp’s season and would love to hear about 2011 regression or sustainability.
@Matt Crapps: Definitely, Crapps.
Holy F’n A, Cotton, Ozzie Guillen doesn’t ever make up his own mind on SHIZZ!!! So he says Pierre was going to sit tonight for sure, maybe all weekend…well guess who’s leading off tonight? You guessed it! The frenchman himself. Good thing I check this stuff out. Here’s what else I’ve seen in tonight’s rosters:
KC – Dyson appears to be in, but he’s listed by his first name, so who knows, the rest are in
NYM – Wright is out
CHW – Konerko, Rios, Ramirez (x2) are out
MIL – the usuals are in
STL – Rasmus out, Pujols/Holliday in
FLA – usuals in
HOU – assuming Bourn is out for the season, the usuals are in
NYY – obviously trying to secure homefield – the usuals in
CIN – Rolen the only one out
PHI – no Victorino, but the rest are in
No other big names out that I can see, but if I missed anyone, I apologize as I’m too tired to figure out the rest, these are the only teams that really pertain to me.
@Grey: Does that make Stanton A-Rod’s favorite player?
@Wilsonian: Thanks for the break downs. Much appreciated!
@brad: Yes, it does.
@Grey: no problem. Just doing my civic duty to you and the Razzball community that has given me so much since April. And I’m doing it for my own purposes, as well…can’t take all the credit. Ha!
Thanks much, Grey! You’re a big reason I’m going to win my Roto league this year. BTW fellow readers, if you REALLY appreciate Grey you’ll buy a Daiquiri like I did this year!
@Wilsonian: Either way, it’s appreciated.
@Doug: Thanks!
@Grey: anytime…I’ll try to be doing it for the rest of the weekend.
If you were up 9 HRs and 21 RBI, would you play Dyson over Holliday if you were down 2 steals, or would you play Dyson over Kemp, when I don’t know if he’s in yet as he has the late game and make sure I’ve got someone in the lineup?
@Wilsonian: Yeah, play Dyson over Holliday.
I can keep 5 players for next season. I already have Votto, Tulo, Lincecum & J. Johnson locked in for 4 spots. The remaining spot could go to Werth, Matt Holliday or Jason Heyward. I would love to keep Heyward since I went out on a limb for him in the draft this year and would like to see it payoff over time, but does he really have a better season anytime in the near future than Jayson Werth or Matt Holliday?
@Kevin: Holliday over both.
Yeah – Holliday is pretty solid. I had started to lean that way. Who knows, Josh Johnson may no longer be a lock as the offseason goes along.
Thanks for the help this season! Made it to the finals but I am getting crushed because of guys like Kelly Johnson and Corey Hart going off this last week. Seems like it doesn’t pay to have the Super Stars in the final week with all the bench they see. Ahh, well – maybe next year.
@Kevin: No problem, sorry you didn’t win it.
@Wilsonian: Thanks for the lineups, man, I was thinking, where besides ESPN can I get lineup info (cos they hadn’t posted the KC lineup yet) and remembered that you’ve been posting it here. Very helpful.
I went to the dog park, got some great taco truck fish tacos and ceviche and some ice cream, ate said food, and watched part of the ATL/PHI game and still I had the last comment?!! The year’s not over yet! Doesn’t anyone want to gripe about having dropped Rollins, who hit a GS? Where is Steve? Am I going to have to try to like football again?!!
@royce!: I just went for pho, which was somehow not good. How do you ruin broth and raw beef? On a related note, I think Yelp is unreliable for restaurants with under 50 reviews.
@royce!: Oh, and no griping because you know who is on vacation. Hey, Steve!
@Grey: Wow, I’m not sure if I’ve ever had bad pho (made it at home once and it was bland, but not bad) but I imagine that bad pho has got to be one the most disappointing meals ever. Pho’s like a McDonalds hamburger, it’s pretty much always the same, and when you’re in the mood for it, it’s brilliant. Did you go to Viet Noodle Bar on in Atwater Village on Glendale? That’s the one place in LA that I know makes pho and other vietnamese food that people find disappointing because it doesn’t taste like the other places.
Yelp IS unreliable for places with under 50 reviews. Have you still not hit up the taco cart on Fletcher and Larga? http://www.yelp.com/biz/taco-cart-at-fletcher-and-larga-los-angeles#query:tacos%20fletcher
I know, there are under 50 reviews, but my reviews receive 30 x as much weight as those yahoos, so… try it sometime. I want to eat vicariously through you! (Boy that sounds creepy)
Oh, and, get back safe, Steve!
Hey! Clippard pitched 0.1 inning, and gave up a run. Doesn’t that mean he gets a win? Aren’t those the Clippard rules?
@royce!: no problem for the lineups. I’ve been following Roto Info on Twitter and have been stalking them as of late with all the lineup changes and stars catching the bench. I’m gonna try to get to em tomorrow but I’m not sure if I can get to the early games in time (running a massive 5k in the morning). But I’ll do my best…I’m sure I’ll need it myself.
Cainablitzed! In celebration of the Governator signing a into law a reduction of the punishment for possessing 1 oz or less?
@Wilsonian: Not sure if I’ve ever seen “massive” and “5k” in such close succession. Kidding! I hope you win.
@royce!: It’s just freakin’ broth and raw beef! They don’t even cook the beef! How could that be bad? Yeah, it was disappointing. Wasn’t on Glendale. Was a new place in West Hollywood. More disappointing because there is better places that I know about. I’ll try that taco cart sometime. Though I might be the only Angeleno that doesn’t like Mexican food. It’s a’ight.
@royce!: Ha!
Sanabia v PIT or Stauffer@SF?
@second: Stauffer
@Grey: Freddy Sanchez with a hit and RBI- Steve musta dropped him! Heyo!
If you don’t dig Mexican food, there’s no reason to try that taco stand.
Ironically (is it still ironic if I I say that?), not liking Mexican food seem positively un-american. And you’re eating vietnamese…. I fear you may have voted for Comrade Obama??? Just kidding. Politics on Razzball is like sex in the champagne room.
Anderson and Hanson are both must-starts tomorrow, yes?
@Grey: Did you still eat the pho? If I was confronted with bad pho (which, as I said, I never have been), I think I’d probably eat a few bites, think about it, take another few bites thinking I got it wrong the first time (maybe it was too hot at first?), add some Sriracha, maybe some more basil or cilantro, go through this cycle until I finished the bowl, and then live with the regret.
When did Dyson learn to hit? I hired him for steals, not hits. He clearly didn’t read the job description.
@Timequake: I’s start both. Hanson has an ERA under 2 against PHI this year, and the Mariners’ #5 batter today has an avg under .200 (and that’s actually understating how bad they are this year).
@royce!: Ha… Yeah, I ate it. The noodles were a clumpy mess too. I had a banh mi for lunch too, positively Vietnamese day today. BTW, Here come the Giants.
@Timequake: I’d start both.
I’m here in Queenstown! Google it. That food sounds great.
Kinda faux Irish for me tonight. We have the kids with us after all…
.145 today. Bah!
And I still have Freddy! Day would be worse without him!
@Steve: There’s Steve!
@Steve: Hey, Steve! You go to Pog Mahones or Morrison’s? (this internet thing is so fun!)
@Steve: Oh, and please thank Freddy for that baserunning error in the 9th against SD.
@Grey: BTW, there go the Giants!
@Steve: Love the freddy love!
Got Freddy here too!
I need 2 of these for tomorrow: Stauffer, Matusz, Bailey, Sanabia. I’m thinking the first 2.
Also, in regards to another league, would you feel safe using Stauffer tomorrow if you were holding a slim lead in ERA and WHiP? I need Ws and Ks though to have a chance at the overall lead, hence my dilemna. He just seems like one of the better FA on the wire in the league is all.
And who would you guys draft first next year: Heyward or Bautista?
@royce!: Pog Mahones. Much as expected but served its purpose.
@simply fred: He needs to love me back for a couple of days!
@ruah: Stauffer and Sanabia…
@DrEasy: Heyward
12 team 10×10 roto league. I’m in 1st wth a small lead,
Me: Carrasco, Sanabia, Zito and Dempster, Hamels, Wandy and CLewis
Him: Ubaldo, Pauley, Capuano, Stauffer and Suppan, Braden, Blackburn, Latos and Rzep
Question 1: Should I start all my starters?
Question 2: Should I pickup Sonnanstine or Wakefield or Volquez?
@TonyCino: Yes… No…
Thanks Grey, I wouldn’t be where I am without you.
Here’s the lineup updates so far:
STL- Pujols out, Holliday/Rasmus in
COL- CarGo out (possibly tomorrow too)
CIN- Rolen/Votto out
NYM- Reyes out, Wright in
MIN- No Cuddyer
WAS- No Dunn or Pudge
MIL- the usuals are in
TOR- No Snider
ATL- the healthy usuals
BOS- the healthy regulars, but no Beltre
@Wilsonian:
NYY- the big guns
PHI- the big guns, sans Werth
SF- no Fab Five Freddy, but the rest are the regs
guthrie’s breaking stuff was pretty tight , last night .
when was the last time the O ‘s won both ends of a double-header ?
@Grey:
have coined a new term , that seems to be catching on at work .
use it if you wish .
“no sir , i do not wish to participate in your fantasy football league .
i only do baseball .
i am not bi-sportual .”
Edwin Encarnacion another HR. Gives the Jays 7 20-home run hitters.
@TonyCino: No problem.
@Wilsonian: Thanks for the heads(es) up!
@big o: Ha! I am not bi-sportual. Nice!
@VinWins: Insane.
@Grey: no problem. Figured I’d do it at least one more time.
@Wilsonian: What, not tomorrow?
@Grey: haha, I’m going to try…that’s where the “at least” part comes in.
@Wilsonian: I see. Emoticon.
Bah. Sonavabenched by Capps and just lost a possible win for Bailey. Grrr.
@Steve: You back already?
@Grey: Nah, still here. Just venting. Needed those wins the worst way in the RCL.
And I’m 0/12. Not helping.
@Steve: Gotcha…
Do you know why Sanabia isn’t starting? The Yahoo boxscore has Jorge Sosa pitching…
@Justinian IV: Scratched with elbow stiffness.
@Grey: Thanks
Did Tulo, Pujols, or Rasmus lose a SB yesterday? CBS had me at 5 SB yesterday, I’m at 4 today.
Scratched and shut-down pitchers are killing me. First Felix then Wandy…I also went into this week thinking Scherzer was getting two. Sucks.
Is Matusz in line for the win?
@Black Beard: Yeah, very annoying.
@Steve: Yup, got the win.
Sweet! Makes me pine a little more for that Capps win. Had to sit someone to fit all my starters and he drew the short straw. Thought those Blue Jay bullies might beat up on him. Pity about Sanabia.
I can laugh about my team’s 1-27, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R (Morse was my entire offense. Seriously.) performance today since I have a fairly commanding lead.
As long as Sanchez and Braden don’t pull a Cueto, I’ll win. Hasn’t been fun watching my offense go 6-80 yesterday and today, though.
@Steve: Nice…
@Travis: Yikes, hopefully you pull it out.
@Grey: Didn’t want my last post to be me wah wah wahing, so let me get your advice on something I might try to swing early in the offseason. 7 keeper league, plus OPS.
What do you think about a Rios/M. Young for A-Rod trade? Likely can’t keep Young but wanted to know where you stand on Rios going forward. Realize it might be pretty dependent on how A-Rod hits in the playoffs, as he’s been tearing it up as of late. Thanks!
@Travis: I think we have the same team.
Man, that Carrasco loss could really hurt me in the ol’ keeper.
@Grey:
re : san diego / san francisco / atlanta
the one-game play-off game , if necessary , would count , correct ?
don’t know if i can correctly navigate through another line-up over-haul .
due to the statistical needs of a few offensive categories , have spent a good portion of the day adding texas and chisox players ….
moreland / morel .
(dayan ending up strong) .
would like to see danny haren get lit up tomorrow , especially since i’ve no innings left .
nice to see hamilton groove one to center ,
but hope vlad plays tomorrow .
do you think ^he^ will ?
what about quentin ?
tell your boy , wilsonian , that he better not fail us now .
robinson cano stolen base !
how many times has that been posted on this site ?
@Black Beard: I’d take A-Rod there.
@big o: It counts in ESPN, not Yahoo. Don’t think Vlad will play. Quentin should.
@big o: Here’s a breakdown of possible scenarios:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5639352
@Grey:
thanks for the link .
yeah , that national league scenario #3 was the troublesome one .
but , if you’re sure that it is inconsequential to yahoo league play ,
then , as abe lincoln once said , “be excellent to each other , and ,
PARTY ON , DUDES ” .
so , with thursday’s game being rained out , friday’s double-header became a two-fer down at camden yards .
tonight , in fenway , they were praying that the 1st game wouldn’t go extra innings , ‘cuz they had to clear the building for the 2nd showing .
there’s nothing quite like the feeling you get , from looking down at your feet,
and seeing somebody else’s trash .
cust kayin’ .
@big o: I think that was Babraham Lincoln.
@Grey:
tell ‘february’ grey ===> not to worry .
NO one could have anticipated the hoopla
surrounding the last game of the season
between the padres and the giants .
@ ‘october’ grey :
hope you maximize your potential .
may lady luck smile on you , today .
Hey Grey,
First of all, thanks for the roundups and for nudging me in one direction or another on various lineup decisions this year. It clearly helped, and it’s been an entertaining season in fantasy (and reality) baseball for me.
My 5×5 league is still in doubt heading into the final day. I’m up by a half of a point, but looking at relinquishing my thin lead in Ks (2nd place guy has 2 starts to my one). The best way for me to gain a point would be by picking up .0003 in avg. That has led me to spend my morning asking myself questions like “who do I like for avg the rest of the way, Panda or Kila? Raburn or Damon? Gaby or McGehee?” I seem to have wandered into crapshoot territory.
Anyhow, thanks again. I’ll try to figure out how to send you a daiquiri from this foreign outpost, and then I’ll be back to see if January Grey can help me sort out my messy keeper league situation. . .
Snider, Fowler or Tabata in a dynasty? No needs, just restoring my roster to a respectable degree of upside.
Lineup updates so far:
ATL – shockingly, the regulars are in (Diaz in, too)
DET – the usuals, sans Miggy (Kelly at 1st)
WAS – Dunn and Pudge back in (no Zimmerman)
@Wilsonian:
CIN – the regulars are in (including Votto and Rolen)
FLA – looks like the regulars are in (Hanley out, obviously)
@Wilsonian:
PIT – no Alvarez, the rest are in
CHW – no Man-Ram, Rios or Quentin
BOS – no Beltre
NYM – all regulars are in
PHI – kind of surprised, but the regulars are in
@Wilsonian:
yay mister wilson ian !!
am counting on you
for my last minute line-up changes .
@big o: Thanks!
@Earl Battey: Thanks for the kind words! Panda, Raburn, McGehee…
@Anonymous: Snider
@Wilsonian: Damn, why is Alvarez benched?
@big o: try this –
http://www.rotoinfo.com/?game=lineup
@vinko: Well, yeah, but isn’t easier if someone goes through it.
Ha! Don’t know what I was thinking. Think it’s the idea of baseball withdraw that has me all agita this morning.
@vinko:
thanks for the link .
wish i had it for the entire season .
@vinko: Agita – ha!
Need to play 3 out of:
JD Drew hitting 3rd vs Mosley
Kalish 6th vs Mosley
Hunter 4th vs Lewis
Abreu 3rd vs Lewis
Upton 2nd vs O’Sullivan
I’m down an SB and 4 RBIs.
What do you think?
@struggler: Drew, Abreu, Kalish…
Cool – Thanks.
Running out Drew, Kalish. Tough benching the BJ. I’ll wait to see the Angels lineup to see whose in a better Rib-Eye location…
Wish me luck!
Pitched battle for second in RCL Original Recipe.
Plucky Kiwis currently on the back foot.
@struggler: Good luck!
@Steve: Don’t forget to grab one game playoff guys.
@Steve: Upper cut from Dogs. I went for Steals, HR, and Wins. Picking up Dyson got me the .5 point as of 3:15 PM EST.
@Grey: With that thought I grabbed Yankees (the horror).
@BSA: Yup. All going south now.
@Grey: Loading up.
Wow! If Atlanta holds their lead and SD pulls out a win over SF, TWO extra counting games (ESPN):
Monday — San Francisco at San Diego for NL West title
Tuesday — SFO/SDG loser at Atlanta for NL wild card
Go Padres! (Want to eek out as much of the season as possible!)
Alright as set as I can be with the current FA market for next week.
@BSA: I tried to not leave too much behind.
@Steve: Picking the FA market with a backhoe can be dangerous.
My team has completely stopped hitting.
Yesterday’s points?
Smoke.
Managed to fill my entire 25-man roster (after games locked) with ATL, SF, SD players all who have at least some counting stats for the season. OK, Dan Ford zero for zero with 2 steals is marginal, but, hey, steals are tight in my league. Never Give Up!
@simply fred: All hitters.
hmm…that ATL/PHI clash tightening a bit. Thank you, Mr. Wagner, sir!
Rajai caught stealing.
Nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
@Steve: Yea, I got him too. Let’s hope he “makes up for it”. It’s early.
What the hell? Hitting from the heels?
I picked up Bourjos and Fowler for the steals. Who needs those stinkin’ homers.
Royals – Teaches you to leave Soria on the bench.
Run Rajai Run!
@simply fred: Hehe
@Steve: Ha
@BSA: Ha!
There’s a tie for second…
Come on Rays! Score for Benoit!
@Steve: No, need Dyson and Aviles to keep getting SB ops.
Sorry, Fred. Need the win.
@Steve: Shaddap – I am taking the .5 W point today from Al.
Upton caught looking. Quelle suprise.
Ach. Latos screwing me in H2H. Looks like 4th place for me, unless I get pinch-hit RBI from KJ or Venable.
@BSA: Still got my SD/SF relievers to vulture me one…
Or two more steals would help. Run, boys, run!
@Steve: Fitting you and are duking it out for second.
@BSA: Yeah. Thought I was toast at the ASB.
@Steve: Really, wanting those extra playoff games. Go Padres!
@Grey: Loving Trumbo’s zero for 11 on callup. Might just help to keep him under the radar next year.
@simply fred: Yeah, but Kendry’s not going to help his playing time, assuming he returns healthy.
@Grey: Maybe Soscia will want to try him at catcher to keep Napoli’s ops down. DH?
Sanchez, 4 BB in 4 IP. Come on SD make him pay.
In the 12th inning, Mets broadcasters were joking about how much longer Jerry Manuel could hold out before putting Oliver Perez in the game just to end it already. Funny. It turns out the 14th was the answer. 0.1 IP, 3 BB, 1 HB, 1 ER for Perez.
Watching Perez take the mound, in the last game of the season, and do his usual, broadcasters called it “kafka-esque”.
@simply fred: Wouldn’t be surprising.
@peter: Ha… The Mets have the best booth after the Diamondbacks.
@Grey: I love the Mets booth. The audible groans in the last 3 innings were, like Ted Danson says, heaven.
@peter: “kafka-perezque”
@peter: Is that a Bored to Death reference? I only saw the first episode and never went back.
so because of jeter’s junk 9th inning RBI my opponent tied me in RBI’s and I’m losing 5-4-1
Just need an RBI from Montero. Oh wait…he’s on the bench.
@struggler: That sucks.
@simply fred: There’s a Metamorphosis joke in there, somewhere.
@Grey: Early Curbed episode, actually. I’ve stuck w/ Bored to Death. If I think about it, the show is a little disappointing. If I don’t think about it, then it’s pleasant enough.
@peter: Ah… Don’t remember that from Curb. re: Bored — You sound me with Entourage. I can’t figure out why I watch it, yet continue to.
Short of a Juan Uribe Reign of Terror scenario, it looks like I’m going to take my pride/blood/money league for the third year in a row. Grey, your daily updates have been nothing short of HUGE in helping to make this happen.
Thanks Grey! C’mon people, buy this man a drink!
In a 12-team roto league I entered the final day 3.5 points out of first. With nothing to lose, I started Colby Lewis, Jeff Suppan, Esmil Rogers, Dallas Braden, Rodrigo Lopez, Wade Davis, Marc Rzepczynski, and Mike Pelfrey.
Don’t know if it will be enough, but worked out better than one could expect.
2 Wins, 35 Ks, 2.15 ERA, 1.00 WHIP.
@Black Beard: extra two days of stats slipp..ing….a..wayyy….
@VinWins: Congrats! Saw similar in my league.
@simply fred: Thanks. I expected to get some wins and Ks, but blow up my ERA and WHIP.
Last day of the season does lend itself to some lower scoring games, I think.
@Grey: Just won one league and finished third in the other thanks to tips like: Sell Zobrist, own Filthy Sanchez, own Liriano, and -of course- SAGNOF!
I finished the year with a relief corps of Wagner, Hensley, Takahashi, Perez and Axford in one league where saves are worth 4 points and a win is worth 6. Traded Panda and BBershaw in another league for Michael Young, AGonz, and Lilly. Sold high on Papi, and Hamilton and held tight on Holliday and Uggla early on.
Thanks for all the advice Grey, Rudy and all of the commenters that chimed in throughout the year.
@Grey: Also, I nominate the Red Sox as the best booth in baseball. Remy is a riot when the games are out of hand.
@Black Beard: Congrats!
@VinWins: Well played!
@MarkM: Congrats!
@MarkM: Yeah, Remy’s not bad. Better than most. Much better than the Padres, yikes.
@Grey: I’ve felt that way about Entourage for at least 2 seasons. Yet I keep watching. I’m like the guy who drafts Eric Byrnes every year for power and speed.
@Grey: Thanks!
And my compliments to you. This is a great site. It’s the first place I go every morning.
And I read it for the writing first, then the advice.
@peter: Ha
@VinWins: Thanks for the kind words!
Thanks to Razzball’s preseason projections and in-season management advice, I was able to take down first place in two of my four cash leagues. I finished second in a third that was winner-take-all.
I know that I will continue to be a donor and plan to donate a portion of my winnings to the continued success of the site. I’d like to see my fellow readers do the same. Putting together this kind of content is a labor of love that can be more demanding than a full-time job.
Thanks, Grey and Rudy!
Damn, a disappointing end to a great season- Pads go down in Pad fashion (0 R, 4 H), and I won 2 of 3 leagues, but lost the one league that hands out prizes (a h2h, so I say it’s all luck anyway). Was so close to getting that Razzball jacket but in the end it looks like it’ll be going to a team that predicted its inevitability! Thanks to Grey and anyone else who chimed in for all the advice! And if anyone has any advice on what to do in Big Sky, MT, lemme know.
Hey Grey,
I officially just won my uber competitive league that has been in existence for 12 years in large part due to this site, and all of the great advice you guys offer! I guess this is just a thank you and here’s hoping you keep up great the work next year. Cheers, dude.
Thanks again,
Bryan
@sean: Thanks for the kind words and congrats!
@royce!: No problem… The more it makes no sense, the more I think the Giants could go deep into the playoffs. The front three could surprise people, will depend on how much the hitters can surprise the big three of the Phils.
@Bryan: Congrats, and thanks for the kind words!
I will post full standings in forum once ESPN makes them official, but for now, Bob and his Schmohawks have gone wire-to-wire to win the RCL Original Recipe Division with 103 pts. BSA and yours truly tied for second with 87 (curses self for benching Capps yesterday) and AL KOHOLIC fourth with 82.
Nice work, Bob. Age shall not weary them (emoticon).
@Steve: I guess if you count last year’s win, it’s been even longer since he’s seen anything but first place. Well done, Bob. You’re giving the Schmohawks a good name.
@Grey: Yeah. Just didn’t want to give him the swelled head!
Three seconds and a fourth (stupid H2H) for me this year. Mostly due to the Razz. Thanks for all the help and entertainment.
@Grey: great season grey,thanks for everything,you just keep getting better man,took a close 3rd in the money league,wins,loses and games started killed me,damn mariners(owned felix)see you soon razzballers
@Steve: No problem. Next year, the top!
@AL KOHOLIC: Thanks for the kind words!
@Grey: I started reading Razzball some time this summer. What the hell happens now that the season is over?? Does Grey go away today til, say, next April or May?
@Jay: Nah, offseason rookie, keeper, sleeper and recap posts.
Thanks for all the wisdom this season, Grey! Looks like I’m going to win my H2H Keeper for the 2nd straight year (I say “looks like” b/c we tied 6-6 but I have the tiebreaker edge. I’ll believe it when I see it tomorrow morning). The Borderline Fantasy starter posts were huge down the stretch…Stauffer was money this week haha!
@Grey: Thanks for the props. As many others have said, if it wasn’t for you, I’d be nowhere… (For the record, two firsts, and two seconds this year).
@Steve: What a comeback. I’ll be watching and waiting for you next year. I love how you and BSA were adding Braves, Giants, and Padres today. There’s no quit in you.
I was thinking maybe we could add a few of the top people from some of the other RCL leagues (are you listening royce!?) and have an even more competitive league next year.
@BSA: You gave me a scare this year. You are one tough Fantasy Mofo!!
@AL KOHOLIC: Thanks for your nice words over on the League Page. You are a great addition to the league, and I’m really looking forward to next year.
@Buddo Chezuski: He was money. No problem, congrats!
@Bob: Well done.
@Buddo Chezuski: Hey we’re in the same winners boat!Back to back h2h keeper champ here too. Baby gets a new pair of shoes and I’ve got a few extra bucks to throw at the credit card debt.
Nearly suffered a monumental collapse with the number of guys shut down and sitting this week, but we held on. Thanks for the help Grey. Mike Aviles was HUGE these past two weeks!
In our league, dude finished out of the money for the price of ONE strikeout. Man, an entire season of monster moves and it comes down to ONE K. This is a tough game.
@simply fred: Seriously brutal.
Last season, I advanced in the playoffs by two feet – the difference between a David Wright double off the wall and a homer that would have ended my season. On the Sunday night game, which made it even more dramatic.
@3FingersBrown: Don’t get me wrong–way much fun just in playing the game. But, where’s the justice in having it come down to one K, or two feet? That’s Base-a-ball!
Several daquiris will shortly be in the mail!
@Bob: thanks for letting me in,it was great,looking forward to an improved finish next year,
