@Grey: Guy has come back wanting Bourne instead of George. Bourne is a bench player for me. I'm thinking I let him drain someone else's AVE and find steals somewhere else. Agree?

@Grey: for the util spot, Chris Davis is against LHP Glen Perkins @Min, and Cano is going against LHP Greg Smith at Yankee stadium. Both lefty bats against lefty arms. Which would you start? I am leaning towards Cano, but i don't know why.

I think anyone coming off his rookie year, pitching home games in that park, pitching against that division is definitely a solid guy for next year.

I agree... However, I would venture that he would be a different guy with a big club. Complacent maybe?? I actually think he likes being an underdog with a small budget so he can flip-off everyone else with $$$.

Last thing on Eveland... If you had him all year as a 5th arm on your fantasy team, this is what you would have so far.

7W 74K 3.49ERA 1.40WHIP

That WHIP will come down between now and next July.
He is a huge sleeper next year. IMO of course.

@RT: Hmm... Interesting. re: Beane -- I never underestimate him, so I know Smith and Eveland will pitch well for a few years then get traded to a pennant contender. Imagine Beane working with the Yanks (fill-in any club with $).

Very similar stuff and similar pitchers. Both bulldogs.. Fastball sets up the change. Breaking ball can be filthy when the fastball is not all over the place. First inning was always a problem for Marcum 'cause he overthrew. Then he settles by not overthowing his fastball... Beane knew what he was doing on Smith and Eveland, trust me...

Here's some interesting numbers.

Shaun Marcum 47.4GB% 8.7K/G 2.64ERA
Dana Eveland 47.2GB% 6.8K/G 2.90ERA

@Grey:
I talked to a scout who was at the game and he said his change was jumping all over the place. Nice thing about Marcum (which never occured to me before), he's a fastball/change guy. Easy on the elbow.

Hey, that sounds Volquez! I think he's absolutely worth a shot, but I'm not sure he'll be worthwhile. He had major bumps even in the minors. But the last jump for pitchers could mean he fools batters the first time around the league, which is kinda all you need in the 2nd half.

@Baron Von Vulturewins: I'm probably just going to think about it all day until later tonight when I see that someone else in my league has picked him up to ride him to a championship. Yeah, I'll probably wait for that.

His numbers don't look terrible, but not fantastic. I posted some of them on the Razzball forum. I don't know how to measure MLE, so not sure how these numbers translate... Does anyone know a good site for that, or else, how to measure ML equivilents?

@IowaCubs: If I just watched him wallow in last without offering advice and establishing a rapport then you'd have a point. The funny is not last place, the funny is add/dropping without reading about who they're getting.

@IowaCubs: I'd drop Sonnanstine for the speculative add, but not the other two.

Gio's numbers, save for K9, weren't too hot in AAA, were they? I haven't looked in awhile....

@BSA: I'm glad you're in a league where being in last place is funny. "Ha ha... look at the loser in last place." Excuse me while I cry in the corner holding my Manny Trillo rookie card.

Can someone finally acknowledge that Kyle Lohse is worthy of owning and starting?

Also, Gio González was just called up by the A's. I really want to pick him up in case he's as awesome as his 9.57 k/9 is advertised. Which one of these would be worthy of dropping for him here: Manny Corpas, Tyler Buchholz, Andy Sonnanstine or punt?.

YES! That means Gio Gonzo gets the call up!

Hey Grey, where do you rank this kid, worth a shot in a 16-team mixed league?

@Grey: Alright I wrote post #7 before reading your blog entry this morning. I liked your explanation in the forum when I had that same question. So, like I said, YEEEEHAW!
Wright and Iannetta playing on my team last night. Not bad when 50% of your team homers.

Let's start with a quiz
Last week I tried to work a trade with a guy who picked up Hoffman. Saito got hurt. I dropped him and picked up Broxton to keep control of closers in my league and keep the value high. He didn't want to do any trades I proposed. This morning I woke up and saw he dropped Hoffman and picking up Saito.
Any idea what place he is in and how many wins he has?
