DraftKings is back with another RAZZBALL EXCLUSIVE Play with Rudy [and Nick] contest going on this Friday. Just like last week, there’s a cap of only 40 entries (2 per person), and with an entry fee of only $5 and a chance to win $20,000 it’s got more fantasy upside than Nick on the North Pole with a compass. Wait what happens on the North Pole with a compass? Nick, you live like a mile from there right?
The winner gets entry into DraftKings huge $100,000 MLB Spring Fling were the top winner gets that large chunk of $20 grand cheddar. You could cover like a million Packers fans’ heads with that. Spots 2-10 get $5 back so there’s a great shot at winning! Since this is a RAZZBALL EXCLUSIVE contest, it’s not as difficult to win and you don’t have to hit on every guy (unlike Tehol at a Wednesday photo shoot). Last week’s winning team rolled with big plays like Peavy, Cashner, and Rizzo (who put up a 40 burger), but got a goose egg from Brandon Laird (coulda probably afforded Betancourt!) and disappointing games from Josh Hamilton and Carlos Gonzalez. Rudy finished 6th, so he’s still beating most of you guys, bring him down!
SP – Tim Lincecum 7.0 IP 6 H 3 BB 9 Ks (24.4 Pts)
CI – Albert Pujols 1-3 2 RBIs (7 Pts)
MI – Alcides Escobar 1-3 1 2B 1 BB 1 SB (12 Pts)
OF1 – Carlos Beltran 2-4 2 HRs 3 RBIs 2 R 1 BB (32 Pts)
OF2 – Melky Cabrera 1-4 (3 Pts)
UTIL – Yuniesky Betancourt 1-4 1 HR 1 RBI R (14 Pts)
TOTAL – 92.4 Pts (Previous weeks’ finishes – 75, 83, 96)
Back into the 90s! No not the VH1 crap. Still couldn’t quite catch the high score, but it won’t be often a pitcher goes for 50 like Darvish did in his first start. Huge game for Beltran who got a first inning homer off of Jonathan Sanchez who didn’t even record an out in that game. How about my boy Yuni B! Been an incredible ride being a Brewers fan so far this season.
Here’s who I like Friday Night for the Play with Rudy contest:
SP – Jonathan Pettibone ($5,000) – This Friday sees a lot more of teams’ “aces” (Kershaw, Sabathia, Dickey) so picking the best pitching for the best price will be key. How about saving 50% or more off of those guys, and go with a guy like Pettibone who gets another start for the Phillies against the ghost of the Marlins batting order. Now with Stanton on the DL, it’s got to be the weakest lineup in the Majors. Pettibone isn’t going to rack up tons of strikeouts or throw too deep, but I could see 6 or 7 innings of 1 run ball, and outs lead to racking up points in DraftKings. Great cheap option for your second pitcher.
CI – Justin Morneau ($4,000) – Morneau has struggled a bit out of the gate, but gets a pitcher he’s very familiar with in Justin Masterson, who he’s hit for .296 against in 27 at bats. Throw in a homer, two doubles and 8 RBIs and you’ve got a nice hitter-vs.-pitcher stew. Masterson is the kind of pitcher who, when struggles, it’s mightiliy, and I could see one of those blow up starts here.
MI – Ben Zobrist ($5,500) – Wanna hear some inside information? Shhh, shhh, this is on the dl. As in down low, not disabled list. Jeff Francis isn’t very good. Shocker! What are we in Wichita State? Zobrist is 2-5 career against St. Francis, and I’m putting a few extra duckets in the Zobrist bucket.
OF1 – B.J. Upton ($4,100) – The lesser of the two Uptons (that is, when comparing him to Kate Upton, who is the only other Upton I can think of…) B.J. is 6-21 against opposite pitcher Shaun Marcum with 2 doubles, 3 walks (those count!) and 3 steals. Marcum isn’t the pitcher he used to be either, so a homer could be in the mix here too.
OF2 – Nelson Cruz ($4,600) – I’m loving the upside of the Rangers bats against the Red Sox Friday Night with Felix Doubront toeing the rubber. Doubront gives up a ton of homers (24 in 161 IP last year) and has only given up 1 so far this year. That 1 came in his first start when he walked none, then hasn’t given up any in his last 3 while walking 13. It’s either pitch away to contact or attack, and either way I think Cruz gets a few walks or can handle pitches to hit. He’s 2-4 against Doubront with 2 walks in his career.
UTIL – Yuniesky Betancourt ($3,600) – I’m doing it. I’m taking the plunge. I am doubling down on Betancourt as my UTIL and very affordable asset at corner for Friday’s games. There’s not too many hitters hotter than Betancourt right now, and while Shelby Miller dominated the Brewers in St. Louis on April 12th, the Crew have had trouble with rookies their first time and are a much more confident team right now. Not to mention this will be in Miller Park which is slightly better to hit in and Miller the road pitcher. Miller pitching in Miller Park, let’s hope that doesn’t give him a boost… MVP for Yuni B! Too early? Maybe give him an all-star vote?
As usual, if you have any questions about anyone else, or for other DraftKings contests before Friday, shoot them below, thanks for checking our friends out!
