Zack Wheeler ($7,700) takes the mound today against an impotent Padres offense. San Diego is hitting a cool .220 against right-handers this season. If you are into advanced stats, they have posted a 76 wRC+ against RHP in 2014. Any way you slice it, they suck. For less than $8K, I’m putting just about anybody out there against the Padres especially in their pitching-friendly ballpark. Wheeler isn’t just a warm body, though. He has posted a K/9 of 8.7 with a ground ball percentage of 54%. The walk rate is a little high at 3.8 BB/9, but in each of his last two starts he walked only two and gave up only one earned run. The Padres did tag Dillon Gee for some runs last night, but they also struck out eight times. I’m confident Wheeler will put the Padres’ bats back to sleep and provide DFS players with a great value today.

Alex Wood, SP: $7,400 – Wood is another value play today against the Phillies. Wood got nicked up in his last start, but the Phils’  96 wRC+ against left-handed pitching is middle of the road on the year. The last time Wood faced them was in April when he struck out seven and allowed only one earned run in Philadelphia.

Chris Carter, 1B: $4,800 – Carter’s OPS over his last ten games is 1.200 and he’ll have the platoon advantage today against left-hander John Danks. Carter only has six at bats against Danks, but he’s taken him deep twice in two of them. Danks allowed three homers in his last start against the Astros. One of them was to Carter. The other two belonged to Matt Dominguez ($3,500). He’s worth a look today too.

Jason Heyward, OF: $4,200 – I dip into the Heyward well a lot, but it’s not without a good reason. He’s slashing .360/.385/.510 with a homer and two steals over his last ten games. He’ll have the platoon advantage today against Phillies right-hander Kyle Kendrick at home. Heyward always seems to do something to contribute to my DFS teams whether it’s taking walks, stealing bases, or getting hits.

Jose Bautista, OF: $5,000 – The Texas/Toronto game has the largest line of the day at 9 1/2, so drafting Blue Jay players against Nick Tepesch isn’t a bad idea. My personal fave in DFS is Joey Bats, who has struggled lately but whose 148 wRC+ still ranks in the top 15 in baseball.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

There’s a slight chance of storms in Atlanta, but other than that we’re in the clear.

Doing Lines In Vegas (10-13)

I’ll take the under in San Diego. I’m starting to sound like a broken record but it’s been working.

Drop Pearce or Alcantara for him?

    Hey mike,

Which white sox you like better for draftkings today against Houston’s RHP Cosart in the cell?

    Dunn, de aza or viciedo?

SON favors Dunn, but its not factoring in his recent cold spell.

Being an Indians fan I have fond memories of Grady Sizemore, but the past two days hes played centre for the Phillies over my Sagnof of choice, ben revere.

    Not cool Grady. Not cool.

How much of a rebound do you see from Xander bogaerts in the second half of the season.

I know the upside is there, but what does he really give you at this point? He doesn’t really hit many homers or steal bags, and his playing time looks to be compromised by holt, drew and the imminent return of will Middlebrooks as well as the just activated Victorino. Its confirmed hes not starting today.

Upside is a tantalising thing (and so is the handy ss/3b eligiy). He also sounds like hes one of the x-men. Do you like him, mike?

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

hard to say ROS. he’s just so young. If I was in a redraft I wouldn’t sweat him.

Depends what the other options are for you to fill his position, but when we’re talking upside I think it’s more 2015 and beyond, not necessarily over the next two months.

@Mike: have kipnis, alcides, han-ram as my infield. Added infante recently.

Are you holding onto Hector Rondon in 10 teamers if your not desperate for saves?

    • Mike

      Mike says:

nah, not if I don’t really need the saves. They could easily turn it over to Ramirez IMO

got to say I wasn’t a garret richards believer 2-3 weeks ago, but how cant you be now? still time will tell, but he’s been a flat out ace this year. i own him nowhere, so not being a homer.

what level of a keeper is RIzzo? so glad I took the advice on here and shipped out polanco/hosmer for him at the end of april. as in, is rizzo a top 50/40/30 player?

    • Mike

      Mike says:

      agreed on Richards.

I’d think Rizzo would be T30

    De aza

    Gentry

    Aoki

De Aza is probably the better bet all around, but for straight SAGNOF Gentry.

    Yo mike i asked guru this but id like your 2 cents too. 10 team h2h 3 OF 3 UTIL standard cats plus batter ks and losses. My team C-rosario, 1b-edwin (dl) & rizzo, 2b-wong, ss-desmond, 3b-donaldson, OF-jones/puig/pence, UTIL-harper/andrus/calhoun, bench-marte, SP-scherzer/lester/teheran/ryu/gray/wood/arrieta/ventura/gee, RP-uehara/cishek/allen.
Now i dont NEED pitching but a puig crazy guy sent me an absurd offer. My puig for his madbum/samardzija/richards.
Id really like to keep puig but my staff would be unbelieveable with those 3 guys added in. I would drop gee and yordano. Too good to pass up yes?

    • Mike

      Mike says:

looks like you have the extra pieces to trade a bat. I fit helps you win this year go for it. I’m assuming this is a redraft

      • nick the dick says:
        (link)

@Mike: yup it is a redraft. Just grabbed calhoun and marte off free agents so they can slot right in. Like i said my staff is nice as it is but adding three nasty arms cant hurt. Plus an outfield of jones/pence/harper and my 3 utils being rizzo/calhoun/marte with andrus on the bench even after losing puig aint nothing to shake a stick at either is my thinking. Your feet, my shoes youre doing it?

        • Mike

          Mike says:

yup, you’ve got plenty of assets
